Alice is a new convert to the LDS Faith( or Church?). She decided to convert after dating a member and realizing that in order to have a future she would need to convert. In addition, her parents are going through a nasty divorce and trying to put her the middle. Things are changing for her career wise as well as she will have to decide whether to accept an new job offer out of town.
Everything is challenged when she receives a revelation one night during prayer that she will be engaged before she has to make a decisions about her job. On top of it all, Alice is still learning about herself and her new faith.
I choose this book because Ms. Tippetts like the main character is also a convert and I felt that would be an interesting voice to hear from. We learn along with Alice about many facets of the LDS church in a simplified manner. I found Ms. Tippets voice refreshing and interesting. I was also interested in the "revelation" aspect of the book as this is a central theme to many other religious fiction works, especially African American Christian Fiction.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. The writing was simple and straightforward and I really felt as though the reader was able to learn and grow right along with Alice. ( )
