This is a good book for children to learn about the period of the pioneers. This book is perfect for children, because of the easy vocabulary and simple plot. The book has wonderful illustrations that help readers picture what life was like during that time period. My favorite page was the page with all the food. The reason I liked that page, because to the left of the page, the little girl in the story is making a face like the pickle is sour and the illustrations portrays her feelings very well. Another reason I like this page is because the food looks similar to the food we eat today, even though this book is from a different time period. This book is a very innocent and sweet story for young students, and is informational about the life of pioneers. ( )

I read all of The Little House on the Prairie books so reading this one was awesome to me even if it was a picture book! I was able to connect to the chapter books, and they even had some connections with the writing and the pictures. ( )
