Understanding that others may think differently than you do and trying to accept the quirks as they are. Understanding different ideas and coming to accept them. The illustrations are a collage mix of proportional drawings and out of proportion cut outs. It gave the book a quirky look to a quirky story. I'm not sure I appreciate the reasoning for changing names of items when it's so confusing the everyone else. This is a delightful and surprisingly sophisticated story about a boy who questions everything, including why things are named the way they are. He creates his own vocabulary to describe his world and surroundings to the increasing frustration of his parents, until one day, after a crisis, they figure out how to understand one another. The collage art is whimsical and quirky, and the main character, Marcelo, is an independent soul. I enjoyed this greatly. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Marcelo is a curious and inventive boy who has a lot of questions, especially about words and their meanings. His parents provide him with an assortment of explanations, but as Marcelo ventures to further discover these answers, he decides to create his own vocabulary. His family strives to embrace his new, unique language, but confusion soon unfolds, in a particularly unexpected way. Marcelo, Martello, Marshmallow is a playful reflection about language and its origins. This heartwarming tale poses as a celebration of young creative thinkers, like Marcelo, making sense of the world we live in. This story, originally published in Brazil in 1976 and titled Marcelo, Martelo, Marmelo, is the cornerstone work by acclaimed children's book author Ruth Rocha. Ana Matsusaki's imaginative illustrations immerse readers in the creative mind of Marcelo in the first English edition of this beloved Brazilian children's book.
