The idea of the book originated in connection with preparation for the Historical address, delivered Oct. 29, 1901, on the occasion of the celebration of the Preakness Reformed Church Centennial Anniversary The end result presents all of the early history, both secular and religious, of Preakness and vicinity, and gradually leads up to the building of the church and the organization of the congregation. It then traces the progress and growth of the community and of the ecclesiastical body and discusses the various pastorates bringing the history up to date as of 1902. The genealogical notes present information about many of the families within the church and community.
