"Rival archaeologists must team up on a secret Aztec expedition, or it could leave their careers-and hearts-in ruins. Archaeologist Dr. Socorro "Corrie" Mejaia has a bone to pick. Literally. It's been Corrie's life goal to lead an expedition deep into theMexican jungle in search of the long-lost remains of her ancestor, Chimalli, an ancient warrior of the Aztec empire. But when she is invited to join an all-expenses-paid dig to do just that, Corrie is sure it's too good to be true...and she's right. As the world-renowned expert on Chimalli, by rights Corrie should be leading the expedition, not sharing the glory with her disgustingly handsome nemesis. But Dr. Ford Matthews has been finding new ways to best her since they were in grad school. Ford certainly isn't thrilled either-with everything going on in his life right now, the last thing he needs is a reminder of their rocky past. But as the dig begins, it becomes clear they'll need to work together when they realize a thief is lurking around their campsite, forcing the pair to keep their discoveries-and lingering attraction-under wraps. With money-hungry artifact smugglers, the Mexican authorities, and the lies between them closing in, there's only one way this all ends-explosively"--… (plus d'informations)

This was a fun, steamy, romantic comedy perfect for fans of Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone, and The Mummy. Corrie gets called out to her dream archaeological dig, the study of her life's work, and she finds out that the lead of the dig is the guy that broke her heart in grad school. She is beyond angry but surprised the attraction is still there. Against her better judgement she finds herself staying onsite because she will never be this close to finding the lost remains of her ancestor, Chimalli, an ancient warrior of the Aztec empire. The two keep finding themselves flirting with each other and soon enough they are sharing tents. Very steamy - I could have used a little more adventure however! ( )

I really enjoyed this romance book! Sometimes they're too cheesy, but this was great. Had some funny moments, some great spice, and some suspense. What more could you ask for? I also kept picturing the main male character has dark haired, so every time they described him as light hair, it threw me off. I don't know why, because clearly on the cover, he's a blond. Sounds like there will be a second book and I will definitely want to read it. I rated it 4 stars, because I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was earth shattering. I also got this book to read on Valentine's Day and it was part of the "Once Upon a Book Club" book, so the gifts were super great quality and fun for this book as well! (I won't mention what the first gift was! Spicy!!) ( )

“Because being with her, even for a moment, was worth any and all devastation that might follow.”

In case the title of the book doesn't give it away this is pretty much on some levels a cheesy romantic comedy. However, I will admit it is spicier than a lot of rom coms I've read. I really liked that both main characters were archeologists. It was something I haven't seen in a romance... maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. My absolute favorite thing about this one though... Corrie is the baddie. Like she does it all. What I appreciated was that the author also highlighted that though she had all this popularity and had done these things, she still wasn't allowed into the boy's club of archeology.

Corrie and Ford went to grad school together they shared this romantic and close night, then he stole the fellowship she was sure she was getting and thus begins her hatred for him. Although is it really hatred, if you constantly think about jumping his bones? Corrie gets the chance of a lifetime to work on a dig... one that could make her career and prove her dissertation to be true. Corrie of course quickly learns that the trip was too good to be true because she's working with none other than Ford... the lead on this dig. However, Ford is keeping a huge secret.

I enjoyed that underneath all the archeology and romance stuff we had two real characters with real life issues. Ford needs money to help with something back home. Corrie really just wants to enter the boy's club for once. The more time she spends on the dig, she begins to see Ford as a real person. Of course he constantly screws that up. I loved the way this book made me laugh. Corrie is an awesome character and she's relatable in a lot of ways. The only thing I think we could have toned down beause it wasn't super relevant to the story was her sexuality. I mean it gets harped on a lot. I love sex positive don't get me wrong. It just wasn't really relevant to digging up treasure and fighting artifact thieves.

I loved that this book was an easy read. Like you get sucked into the story really easily. The writing style is fun and we get a nice balance of serious and funny. The characters are well-written and I think the author played out the big reveals like one would expect. However, the like last three chapters are where most of the drama around the archeology componet are focused and it feels a bit rushed. Like I would have really enjoyed all of it begin explored in more detail. I think it would have been a more enjoyable story for sure. Overall though it's one of those books that you know you are likely to read again if the mood hits. ( )

Who knew academia could get this steamy? Corrie has kept her emotions separate from her sex life ever since the night she almost kissed Ford when they were in graduate school. Eight years later, her feelings toward him are mostly full of animosity...But are they really? When Ford is desperate to find a mythical knife and possibly the skeleton of the man who possessed it hundreds of years ago, he tricks her into joining the expedition in the Mexican jungle.
No sooner does she arrive than sparks start to erupt, some romantic, others of antagonism. What follows is a blend of steam, confessions that leave both of them realizing how much they misinterpreted, and some treachery/thievery. It's all wrapped up in a fun read. ( )

This was such a fun read! I grew up with The Raiders of the Lost Arc movies and was so excited to see that a romance novel inspired by the Indiana Jones movies. It had all of the action and adventure that I hoped for, plus the romance that I counted on. I was hooked by this book right away and didn’t wait to put it down until Corrie and Ford found their happily ever after.

Corrie and Ford were great characters and the chemistry between them was palpable. They did have some history and not all of it was positive. When Corrie arrived to help with the expedition, she was not happy to find her nemesis Ford in charge. They had a lot of obstacles to overcome and it was fun to see it happen. They seemed to understand each other better than anyone else and were able to lean on each other at times.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Frankie Corzo did a wonderful job of bringing this story to life. I thought that she had a very pleasant voice and I had no problem listening to this book for hours at a time. I liked the voices that she used for the various characters in the story and thought that she added just the right amount of emotion to her reading. I do believe that her narration added to my overall enjoyment of this story.

I would recommend this book to others. I thought that it was a fun read with characters that were easy to like. Ford and Corrie were wonderful together and I couldn’t wait for them to figure out that they were worth fighting for. I do hope to read more of this author’s work in the future.

I received a review copy of this book from Berkley Publishing Group and Penguin Random House Audio. ( )
