Noble is a fictional piece of work where supernatural creatures like vampires, werewolves, dyads, and half-vampire species are introduced to the reader. I don’t know what I was expecting from this book—maybe one of those cliché plots—but it pleasantly surprised me. I liked the combination of countries having vampire spies, the concept of charmed people, underground organizations, and unknown species. The rapid pace of the story combined with the mysterious origin of the main character, Karolina, and her desire to find the truth and a way out of her current circumstances while considering having something more meaningful in her life, like love, was very appealing. Who will she choose? The childhood friend who is also a werewolf, Roman, or the dangerous spy partner who is a vampire, Andre? These aspects kept me interested in the book until its end. This book will keep readers on the edge of their seats with its suspense and grip. Karo, a young woman who is coerced into becoming a spy, is the main character of the novel. She is forced to face her history and collaborate with Andre, a vampire she has sworn never to trust again, while she learns how to act in her new role. The depth of the characters in this book is one of its strong points. Karo is a complex and deep protagonist who battles her own motivations and allegiances. On the one hand, her desire to learn her uncle's genuine motivations and get away from his control drives her. She is, however, drawn to Andre as well, and their unintentional vampiric relationship threatens to turn her to his will. Karo's character is given depth and authenticity by her internal strife, which elevates her to the position of intriguing protagonist. The novel's complex plot, which keeps readers guessing and on the edge of their seats, is another asset. Karo's missions lead her to discover new knowledge and adversaries, each of whom demands something of her and poses a threat to divulge her secrets. The book's quick tempo and intense tension make it a page-turner that's hard to put down. The novel also delves into the concepts of power, duplicity, and trust in a way that feels new and original. The story is made more interesting by the uncertainty of whether Karo has a weak will or is just seeking an excuse to give in to Andre; their interplay is always intriguing and unpredictable. Dark Eyes: White Lies by M.R. Noble is a well-written and engaging vampire and spy story. As a vampire, Karolina tries to finish her spy assignment but is threatened on all sides. However, she is forced to work with another vampire, Andre, and their attraction is undeniable. “I embraced my nature; you should do the same.” His voice dropped to a whisper, like a caress made of words that touched me deep within my soul. “You and I are the same, Karo. We’re both ugly on the inside.” Truly a riveting and enticing story that pulls you in with its depth and dark atmosphere. Perfect for fans of paranormal vampire fiction with a touch of romance. Great book! Canadian author M.R. Noble earned her degree in Nursing and has worked in community palliative care and mental heath nursing, and in government claims analysis. She stepped onto the literary stage with KAROLINA DALCA, DARK EYES of her The Dark Eyes Series. Now she adds DARK EYES: WHITE LIES as Book 2. A member of the Writers Community of York Region, she lives in southern Ontario, Canada. Noble has discovered the impact of seductive intros in magnetizing the readers’ attention as she opens this continuation of Karolina Dalca’s adventures: ‘Andre entered. I was caught sitting on his bed clutching his pillow. The envelope stood halfway out of his bag. He almost rounded the footboard until I crawled onto my knees on his bed. He stopped. “Are they done?” I asked, holding his gaze. I flexed my toe, pushing the envelope into his bag. “They’re finishing.” He stepped to the edge of the mattress. Even as he towered over me, my hips half the size of his, I felt suddenly powerful. His stare hung on me like he was helpless in the pull of my movement. Like he was at my mercy.’ For those who have not explored Book 1, rest assured that Noble explains all! The plot is condensed as follows: ‘Blackmailed into espionage, Karo must lie to one man while she fights her cravings for another. As spy partners, Karo is forced to work with Andre, the vampire she swore to never trust again. The accidental vampiric bond they have threatens to bend her into submission. But is her will actually weak, or does she want an excuse to give in? Roman’s patience teeters on Karo’s deception. Bitter, desperate, and vengeful, Karo dutifully completes her missions while withholding data from her uncle Loukin’s operation. She swore to get out from under his thumb, even if she has to break a few hands. Each assignment brings her closer to uncovering his goal, and using it against him, but she also draws closer to new foes. And they all want the same thing—Karo’s secrets.’ The line between complete immersion in the creatures of the night fright and the magic of the author’s wit makes this a most satisfying continuation of her series. This is a very fine novel - and very highly recommended. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

M.R. Noble outdoes herself again with this latest addition to the Dark Eyes series. Dark Eyes, White Lies sucked me in immediately, full of drama, suspense and plot twists. I think I enjoyed this instalment to the series even more than the first. I found more passion, more drama, and more excitement, and I really didn’t want Dark Eyes: White Lies to end. A very enjoyable vampire book for fans of the genre. ( )
