The style of the story changed from a more descriptive story of what was happening at the start to a more internal writers view in the latter part. I did enjoy the trials and tribulations of being a landlady for a bording house in the late 1940s. Her lodgers did appear to be quite odd at times. Her famous brother, Gerald Durrell, does make several appearances and leaves a collection of monkeys, who escape to make disorder around the neighbourhood. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

I've seen others say that Margo isn't a writer like Gerald or Lawrence. If the writing had been just ho-hum, I would have finished the book and given it three stars. But as it was, there was an astronomical excess of words that made it really difficult for me to get through it, to figure out what the hell she was saying, who was who... It was a lot of work, and it went no where. ( )
