Arthur promises DW she can come to his meeting. He tries various ways to keep her from attending. She ends up coming to the meeting and at first Arthur's friends are skeptical. But then they realize DW can be fun. This story teaches about keeping your promises and being kind.

This Arthur book is a good one for second graders because it teaches that if you keep a promise that you don't really want to, something surprisingly good may even come out of it. Arthur promised D.W. that she could come to his next Bionic Bunny meeting if he could just watch the brand new episode of his show. When the day of the meeting came, Arthur tried everything to get out of allowing D.W. to come. However, D.W. made it to the treehouse before anyone else. He was stuck with his promise, which ended up being a good thing because D.W. surprised everyone with brownies, sugar cookies, and bionic berry punch. These creative ideas got her invited back to more meetings in the future!
