An author's note explains that "In Korea, we often greet family, friends, or even people we've just met by asking, 'Have you eaten?' It's not simply asking if someone ate a meal. It's the same thing as asking, 'How are you?'" It was widely used as a greeting after WWII and the Korean War "to show concern about another person" at a time when many didn't have enough to eat.
Back matter includes "Coco's Cooking Class," a recipe for Korean-style sweet potatoes.
