Fiction. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella
Nothing like a little rivalry between scientists to take love to the next level.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn

Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leadershed just as soon kiss a Wookiee.

Not even the most sophisticated of Sadies superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disastrous reunion. But while she refuses to acknowledge the siren call of Eriks steely forearms or the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie cant help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis than meet the eye. Maybe, possibly, even burned bridges can still be crossed.

This novella was way worse the second time around. I couldn't stand the heroine, and the instalove and miscommunication were still stupid.

Original review:
The insta-love was annoying and so was the miscommunication, but a lot of this novella was cute. ( )

As a woman who is a civil engineer just like the MC, I am beyond sick and tired of seeing every man in an engineering profession treat women terribly in books like these. To any girl contemplating going into STEM, don’t let stereotypes like these scare you off. It simply isn’t true 98% of the time. ( )

Short story told mostly in flashback about a “meet cute” couple who have a whirlwind 24 hour romance/hookup, then a massive misunderstanding followed by getting stuck in an elevator that forces them to resolve all If their problems.

There’s not a whole lot here but what is here is entertaining enough. ( )

(Second of 3 in STEMinist novellas series; romance, steamy)(2022)

Petite Sadie gets stuck in the lift on her way out of work with the last person she wants to see; Eric Nowak (typical Viking - tall, blond, Danish). We're told in chapters, alternating between the present and three weeks ago, of their conversation in the lift now and how they met then and had one night of unbridled passion before it all went pear-shaped and they haven't spoken since.

We get glimpses of Mara (from the first novella) and Hannah (from the third novella), her friends who did their PhDs with her, when she calls them for advice. And there are some examples of how difficult it is as a woman to make headway in male-dominated fields like engineering and acadaemia; although Sadie embarrasses herself by assuming all men don't believe women can be engineers.

Fun but the short length compresses the timeline so the attraction seems like insta-love rather than something real and lasting.

FMC = 1 star - absolutely disliked Sadie. She was immature, erratic and unable to communicate like an adult.
MMC = 3 star - absolutely liked Erik. He was mature and communicates like an adult.
If it wasn't for Erik, I probably would have DNF'd this book. I nearly did. Erik can do better than Sadie. He is worth more than her and her behaviour.
Narrator = 4 stars ( )
