While Paul was writing in first person, he was also directing it to Pearl. A few chapters were her first person accounts while she went out for the woman. Being that it was supposed to be Christian fiction, I thought the woman might turn out to be an angel like in "Touched by an Angel," but she was more ghost like. Although the author writes well, I probably won't seek him out again. ( ) Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This was a different kind of read for me and questions death, reality, perception and the way we view others. Given diagnosis no one ever want to hear, Paul decides he needs to make some plans and changes for his granddaughter and heads back to a place from his past where things take an unexpected turn. Now grappling with whether he made the right decisions and how to handle Pearl, he must now question everything he knew and the decisions he has made. This novel was an interesting concept. I won this book as part of a Library Thing giveaway.I don't usually go for books that are marked religion but I found the premise to be intriguing so I gave it a shot and I am glad I did. There is not really a religious feel to this book but there is definitely a supernatural one. I don't review with spoilers nor will I be giving my version of 'Cliff Notes' I will say that this is a touching story about love and forgiveness. It's about remembering what is important and that we don't know everything that happens in this world. Some of this book is really frustrating while other parts just make you feel downright cheated but overall I enjoyed this book. The connection between the ailing grandfather and his young granddaughter, Pearl, was poignant but foreshadowed the ending. That’s probably why it took me so long to finish this read. I’m more of a happy ending type of reader.Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. A heartbreaking story about Paul a widower, who after receiving a devastating health diagnoses decides to take his his granddaughter on a trip back to his hometown. This novel cleverly intertwines the past and present, which kept me thoroughly engaged. I look forward to reading more from Shawn!
