When an earthquake hits the Pacific Northwest, a family is revealed to have many of its own faults. The seismic shifts are painful as the reader watches them grapple for survival in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Something I didn't expect, but greatly appreciate, is that I learned a few things about Earthquakes and what I should do were one to take place. This is a fast-paced read. The characters have depth. The earthquake and its aftermath are realistic. I would highly recommend. ( )

I received this book a long time ago and had hand written reviews to add here but never got around to it so here we go. I did not realise this was a sci-fi genre type of book so for me it was just weird and I feel I cannot give it an true review. It’s about a very dysfunctional family caught up in an earthquake about 10 years ahead of our time but the characters just did not grasp me. They are basically trying to find each other and reconnect through many trials. Perhaps for someone who enjoys this genre they’d love it but sadly it did nothing for me and felt disjointed. ( )

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.

Suzy Vitello's book "Fautland" immerses us in Portland (US) in a dystopian future where humans live with artifacts that alter their cognitive and behavioral faculties while improving their daily lives. So that the characters of the story, seem straight out of a parallel universe, of science - fiction.

It is the preposterous story of a young single woman with free morals, whose recurring obsession is to rejuvenate at all costs, and who falls in love in spite of herself with her brother-in-law.
From there, we will get to know the other protagonists of the book, all as crazy as each other, always in a futuristic and particularly convoluted and tortuous atmosphere!

An earthquake will follow followed by a tsunami that will devastate everything in its path. Living on the heights, the heroine will be spared with her family and will reconnect with those she had rejected, with the objective of surviving this devastating apocalypse, where the militia is waiting!

I didn't like the plot and the style, complicated, nor the story, disjointed, which "jumps from cock to donkey" as we say at home. ( )

First, I love that this book takes place in Portland (I miss it) but its also an interesting read as the premise takes place after a major earthquake and in the future plagued by the consequences of COVID, not to mention a certain president we had....Its an interesting take on our near future that fueled my curiosity as to how the author would portray everything. Each character was relatable and the situation that they all find themselves in makes them rethink their live, their choices, and the consequences stemming from them.
