this book is about the many different colors that come during springtime including the flowers, trees, and animals. This book would be great to have in the classroom to teach students about seasons, colors, and wildlife.

A fun interactive read involving colors, counting, flowers, trees, and bees. I need to add this one to my storytime docket.

Something fun in Christie Matheson's latest offering is tie ins of text (like words of plants) and involving children reading them, learning letters, etc. It is an excellent ECRTR extension where I would share a "golden nugget" about the spoken word and the written word! ( )

This primer of colors is told by referring to different flowers that attract honeybees. The flowers include camellia, tulip, crocus, clover, forget-me-not, hyacinth, lilac, and fruit trees. An Afterword explains the pollination process in simple terms. The author also includes a list of flowers not shown in the main part of the book that bees also find attractive. She ends:

“Buzzing bees may be small, but they are one of the most important animals on the planet! . . . Thanks to pollination, plants can grow fruits and seeds. Most of the plants we eat need pollination to make fruit and to keep growing year after year.”

Small children will learn about colors, how a small but critical part of nature works, and why bees are to be appreciated rather than feared.

The author, who is also the illustrator, uses watercolor paints and collages. ( )
