"Claire Cook has a perfect life. Married to the scion of a political dynasty, with a Manhattan townhouse and a staff of ten, her surroundings are elegant, her days flawlessly choreographed, and her future auspicious. But behind closed doors, nothing is quite as it seems. That perfect husband has a temper that burns as bright as his promising political career, and he's not above using his staff to track Claire's every move, making sure she's living up to his impossible standards. But what he doesn't know is that Claire has worked for months on a plan to vanish. A chance meeting in an airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision to switch tickets - Claire taking Eva's flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico goes down, Claire realizes it's no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva's identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden."--… (plus d'informations)

This would be 3.5 stars for me. It would have been a 4 except there was a fair bit of profanity. I had a very hard time putting it down. I really enjoyed the way it was written going from Claire in the present to Eva in the past. I liked how we slowly got bits and pieces of the backstories. So many twists and turns! And the epilogue! Wow! I didn't see that coming and it stayed with me long after I finished the book.
If you're not bothered by the profanity I would recommend this book!
I read this book while I was away for the weekend and may have missed counting some profanities so the number is likely higher than what I've got here.

"Two women. Two flights. One last chance to disappear". Claire needs to get away from her wealthy ambitious husband in New York. Eva needs to escape her dangerous life in California.
They meet in an airport and make a last minute decision to switch tickets. A fast moving book with dual timeliness that kept me reading until I finished! ( )

"If you pay attention.. solutions always appear. But you have to pay attention."
Claire Cook and Eva James switch places on their flights. ..both looking to escape their lives. Some parts of the book are fast paced, especially the parts detailing Eva's past. After the crash the story of Claire's survival are at times slow- moving. Three quarters of the way through it picks up and delivers a surprise ending. ( )

A competent suspense novel centered on two women who need to escape their lives for different reasons. Claire's story is a compelling action plot that takes place mostly in the present, while Eva's is narrated mainly through intriguing flashbacks that gradually reveal how their paths crossed. Although the author's commentary on "men making decisions for women" is too explicit, the tension and plot twists are solid and not as far-fetched or overblown as many recent books in this genre. ( )

The Last Flight is the story of two women, Eva and Claire, desperate to escape their lives. Claire is trapped in a dangerous marriage. Eva is under the control of an elusive drug kingpin and is being forced to cooperate in a governmental sting operation that risks her life and her freedom.

The pair exchange identities during a chance airport encounter that seems like a solution to both of their problems, only the plane crashes that Eva may or may not have boarded and Claire, presumed dead, struggles to stay hidden.

The story unfolds in dual narratives, Eva’s experiences before the crash and Claire’s afterwards.

A clever and unique tale, The Last Flight is well-written but far-fetched. Desperation drives careless decisions. The Ellie coincidence was too much and could have been cut without impacting the plot. There is tension but never an imminent threat with consequences.

Eva and Claire can outsmart almost everyone and have few problems with resources. The biggest gut punch is when Claire’s getaway package falls into the wrong hands, yet she stumbles into an under-the-table catering job that keeps her afloat. Challenges are consistently met with simple, sometimes illogical solutions.

That epilogue though. Phew. I didn’t see that coming and should have. I recommend this book as a vacation or beach read—fun with a few flaws—four enthusiastic stars and included in the Amazon Prime library.

Dedicated to all the women who have come forward with their stories. Whether it be in front of a congressional panel on live television or alone in a windowless human resources office--- we hear you. We believe you.

The loss had faded, as all losses did, replaced by something harder. Stronger. She could see now what she couldn't see then. All choices had consequences. It was what you did with those consequences that mattered.
Everything you ever wanted is on the other side of fear.
This is what it's like to die, having left so much unfinished. It still tethers you---like an in breakable thread, always leading your thoughts back to if only. But if only is a useless question, a spotlight shining on an empty stage, illuminating what never was, and never will be.
"You know, life is long. Lots of things can go wrong and still end up all right."
This was the funny thing about regret. It lived inside of you, shrinking down until you could almost believe it had vanished, only to have it spring up, fully formed, call forwarded by people who meant you no harm.
