"Kia Orana" with this greeting "May you lead a long life", the children and young people of the Cook Islands Rarotonga (main island), Aitutaki, Mangaia, Manihiki and Rakahanga welcome you, the reader. Young Maori worked on the following subjects during a nine month art project that I arranged: "Me and my island", "Me and my family", "Dancing", "Handicrafts", "Patterns of the Cook Islands", "Stories and legends", "Past-present-future" and "How I imagine Germany". These subjects provide a structure for this book as well. The book you are currently holding in your hands was the product of a project intended to give you an understanding of life in the Cook Islands, Polynesia, from the perspective of children and teenagers growing up there.
