Gr 4–8—Based on Mohamed's experiences, this honest yet hopeful story of Somali brothers Omar and Hassan sheds light on the life in limbo they faced in the Kenyan camps of Dadaab after being uprooted by civil war. A varied and colorful palette lightens, though never undermines, the uncertainty of the boys' future as they long for a reunion with their mother and a chance to escape the monotony and dangers of the refugee camp. This book would work best for middle schoolers since it is a graphic novel. This book is about two brothers who live in a refugee camp in Somalia and follows their day-to-day adventures and challenges. I thought this book was very powerful and the illustrations were incredible. This book could be available in the classroom for students to read on their own time but I think it's a book that should be encouraged to students. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

I absolutely loved this book! It was so incredibly powerful and dealt with harder topics in a graphic novel setting. The story was so raw, beautiful and inspiring. If I were to teach an older grade, I would definitely use this book in the classroom. Due to the nature of the story, I would use this book in a middle school or high school classroom. It's a good conversation starter for a deeper discussion.
