Please read the trigger warnings. I am not sure how to write a review without giving spoilers. I will say that I don't like the ending, there is an unnecessary tragedy that honestly does not fit at all with the entirety of the book. This part should have been left out completely, but Whatever. Despite this part the book is very good. I don't know how realistic the book is, but then a good read doesn't have to be close to reality does it? I mean who doesn't want a handsome military man to be sent by your brother to look over you, stand beside you and ultimately pull you out of all your debt and sorrow??? Rebecca Yarros and her book The Last Letter is a book that made me laugh, made me cry many times. It felt like riding a roller coaster while reading the story of Chaos and Ella. A lot is going on in this story to build tension and dramatic impact. For a while, it felt like the hits just kept coming for both Beckett and Ella. But I loved the journeys each of them walked toward trust, hope, and belonging. But as in the stories that stick with us the longest, this was not a straight line to those good things in life, and the challenges they face are beyond comprehension. I loved Ella’s determination to be strong for her children. Her drive to provide was light through even her most harrowing moments. Beckett’s survivors’ guilt was intense, but he is also loyal, and the word he gave his buddy was all it took to guarantee he would fulfill the promise, even if Chaos didn’t think he was the right man for the job. Every time I thought I had my emotional reaction in hand, there was a new twist that had me at a high or low all over again. The Last Letter is one of those reads that had me thinking and feeling long after I finished the last page. I couldn’t even sit down to write my review right away because I had so many emotions but no words to back them up. The story has a lot of ups and downs of life and two people struggling to do what they need to do to be worthy of those around them. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Ella and Chaos begin writing to each other, at the request of Ella's brother Ryan. Ryan and Chaos are both in special ops. Ryan's last letter to Chaos is to take care of Ella. So, Chaos / Beckett Gentry enters Ella's life, but she doesn't know he is Chaos. Slowly, they fall in love, but Ella's daughter, Maisie, twin to Colt, is sick with neuroblastoma, and Ella is at her wits end trying to cope.
This novel takes your emotions on an up and down ride, perhaps a bit too much, but I still loved every minute. ( )
