It takes talent to make a book simultaneously the most ridiculous thing ever and the most predictable thing ever. Emily Bleeker has that talent. What on earth did I just read? And that ending--- christ on a cracker I'm never picking up another book. ( )

Wow

What a twisty adventure this author took me on! At times I wasn't sure where we were going but I'm so happy I stayed for the whole ride. I usually tell review readers to try the sample to see if they like it. This time I'm going to tell you, if you are reading reviews you are probably interested, so read it. Stay with it. Go the distance even if you aren't certain you want to. It will be worth it. ( )

The Waiting Room is a very good book full of twists and turns. I kept trying to figure out what was going on from one moment to the next but for the most part I was unsuccessful. I got a few small, very small details right. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it is well written and well researched. Many times when a writer deals with psychological topics they get some facts wrong, this is not the case with The Waiting Room. Ms. Bleeker made sure to get expert help from doctors in the psychology field.

The Waiting Room is about Veronica Shelton, aka Ronnie, and her search to find herself. She is an artist that illustrates children's books. The story starts with Veronica waking up to find her husband Nick and daughter Sophie gone. She then gets a phone call that there has been a terrible accident. Fast forward six months and Veronica is in a new house and her mother is living with her to help her out with the baby. She starts to see a therapist to help her because she can't hold her daughter without having a panic attack. From here own the journey has several up and downs, and twists and turns.

Set aside time to read this book because once you get involved in the story you aren't going to want to put it down. At 268 pages it can be a quick read. This is a short review because I don't want to give anything away. Just know if you like a book to mess with your head and really make you think this is a great read. I look forward to reading more from this author. At the time of this review the book is running at a price of $1.99 or free on Kindle Unlimited, so grab a copy while it's at a great price. ( )

Somebody get my Chiropractor on the line! I think I have whiplash from all the twists and turns! What a ride!

Emily Bleeker can consistently weave a story like nobody's business and The Waiting Room is no exception!
Just when you think you have it all figured out - WHAM! Whiplash. I cannot even explain my love for her writing, and the way she crafts these incredibly suspenseful stories. Knocked this one out of the park. Totally out of the park and past the parking lot, and across the highway... It's so hard to give any synopsis of the story without spoiling too much. It's just that good. There were about 4-5 scenarios I had going on i my head as to the direction this was going, and I was wrong about them all!

Just after children's book illustrator Veronica Shelton's daughter is born, tragedy strikes. Her loving, smart, funny, doting-father husband is killed and her entire life falls apart So, so badly. It's so bad that grieving Veronica can't even TOUCH her own baby daughter. She thinks she's a terrible mother, is now having her own mother taking over most of her child's duties, and is clinging onto hope she can somehow get over this through a new therapist, and very carefully, slow, tiny baby steps. But then strange things start to happen - a break-in, weird figures in her book illustrations, and then - the unthinkable. Her daughter goes missing.

Incompetent police seem to turn the tables on her and she begins to feel like a suspect. Targeted because of her fragile mental state since losing her beloved husband. Veronica decides she's going to finally be the mother that Sophie deserves, and go out and find her daughter on her own. With some strange new friends and the shreds of motherly instinct that remain inside her - she sets off to do just that.

....and cue the whiplash. Just when you think you've got it figured out. Nope, try again. That person's a good guy? Sorry - not the case! Everything going to be OK? Um... hahaaaaa! Nice try. And that ending.. PHEW! Shocker after insanely clever shocker!

Now, I like to think I'm not totally dim, and can be fairly clever at figuring things out. But Emily Bleeker is SO good at making you feel so silly for even thinking you had ANY idea what was going on. She's definitely one of my favorite authors and I was totally thinking about sending her my chiropractor bill, but it just didn't seem fair seeing as how fun the ride was :) ( )

I loved "When I'm Gone" and "Working Fire" so I was excited to read "The Waiting Room." This book did not disappoint and was not what I expected at all. I'm not even sure where to to begin. It's a psychological thriller and has so many twists and turns. I started to believe one thing and then find out it wasn't true. At one point I wasn't sure which character was actually telling the truth. I never guessed the ending or even thought that was going to happen. I definitely loved this book!!!

Veronica is trying to put her life back together after the death of her husband and the birth of her daughter. She is suffering from postpartum depression and is unable to hold her daughter or even walk into the nursery. Veronica's mom lives with her to help take care of the baby. Veronica meets Gillian during their therapy visits and soon becomes friends with her. They were destined to meet because their sadness is intertwined with each other and they will help each other heal. When Sophie goes missing, Veronica will do anything to find her baby and enlists the help of Gillian and Mark (who seems to be stalking her).

I loved the story, characters and writing style. I definitely recommend it and can't wait to read more books by the author.

Thanks to NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing and the author, Emily Bleeker, for a free electronic ARC of this novel. ( )
