On an early morning in November, a couple boards a private plane bound for Geneva, flying into a storm. Soon after, it simply drops off the radar, and its wreckage is later uncovered in the Alps. Among the disappeared is Matthew Werner, a banking insider at Swiss United, a powerful offshore bank. His young widow, Annabel, is left grappling with the secrets he left behind, including an encrypted laptop and a shady client list. As she begins a desperate search for answers, she determines that Matthew's death was no accident, and that she is now in the crosshairs of his powerful enemies. Meanwhile, ambitious society journalist Marina Tourneau has finally landed at the top. Now that she's engaged to Grant Ellis, she will stop writing about powerful families and finally be a part of one. Her entry into the upper echelons of New York's social scene is more appealing than any article could ever be, but, after the death of her mentor, she agrees to dig into one more story. While looking into Swiss United, Marina uncovers information that implicates some of the most powerful men in the financial world, including a few who are too close to home. The story could also be the answer to Annabel's heartbreaking search--if Marina chooses to publish it.… (plus d'informations)

Fast paced thriller. A few issues, e.g. Annabel was called Marina in one place. Loose ends were tied up. ( )

Annabel is now living in Geneva with her banker husband Matthew. But her life has just crashed and burned much like the plane that was carrying Matthew. But something doesn't add up when she finds clues surrounding her husband's death. He may not have been the man she thought he was. Journalist Marina is looking into Swiss United, the bank where Matthew worked, and she uncovers evidence of a global financial scandal that will put her life in danger.

This was a very interesting look into the dark world of offshore accounts and the powerful, corrupt people who will stop at nothing to keep secrets. It was a realistic read that kept me tense. These women were living in a dangerous world and I didn't really know what would happen to them. I'd hate to be on the run and looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life. Well-written right to the satisfying end. ( )

This book really kept me reading, wanting to know what was going on and what would happen next as I was often not sure exactly who was good or bad, as the bad guys seemed pretty good at deception.

The main characters were the women - mainly two with one added near the end. The two main ones were each recently married, both very much in love with their husbands. Or maybe in love with their perceptions of their husbands, since the husbands were not always what they seemed. And on top of that, their secrets weren't even what they seemed at some times.

In this story, money seems to be the root of all the evil. Lots of people died or disappeared, some not permanently, some only seemed to die but didn't. You never knew what to expect. But in spite of some good people dying, and bad people living, the ending was pretty satisfying and they all lived happily ever after. Or not, since that would contradict what I just said. ( )

Annabel's husband Matthew dies mysteriously in a plane crash, but the more she finds out about the accident, the more confused, afraid, and suspicious she becomes. At the same time, Marina, a journalist, is investigating the death of her mentor, and the story he was researching. Their intertwined stories come together in fascinating, frightening, and complicated ways. As new and interesting characters are introduced, you never know who you can trust. And you can never put the book down in your quest to find answers. ( )

Very good reading. The story of Annabel, Marina and Zoe is full of challenges, twists and turns. ( )
