That these methods were at least questionable there can be no doubt. Socialistic and even anarchistic schemes were in the air. The movement took on such a sensational aspect that one can not blame the sober-minded Conservatives for viewing it with alarm. This feeling is shared even by those who condemn the existing social, economic and political conditions.
