Fantasy. Fiction. African American Fiction. HTML:Game of Thrones meets Gladiator in this blockbuster debut epic fantasy about a world caught in an eternal war, and the young man who will become his people's only hope for survival.
Winner of the Reddit/Fantasy Award for Best Debut Fantasy Novel
The Omehi people have been fighting an unwinnable war for almost two hundred years. The lucky ones are born gifted. One in every two thousand women has the power to call down dragons. One in every hundred men is able to magically transform himself into a bigger, stronger, faster killing machine.
Everyone else is fodder, destined to fight and die in the endless war.
Young, gift-less Tau knows all this, but he has a plan of escape. He's going to get himself injured, get out early, and settle down to marriage, children, and land. Only, he doesn't get the chance.
Those closest to him are brutally murdered, and his grief swiftly turns to anger. Fixated on revenge, Tau dedicates himself to an unthinkable path. He'll become the greatest swordsman to ever live, a man willing to die a hundred thousand times for the chance to kill the three who betrayed him.
The Rage of Dragons launches a stunning and powerful debut epic fantasy series that readers are already calling "the best fantasy book in years."

This book opens with the “good guys” finding an island to be their new home, discovering it is already inhabited by “savages ” (indigenous people) and then using dragons to commit mass genocide so they can live there.

It's been a some time since I have been thinking about a book long after putting it down. This is one of those books. The story follows a somewhat familiar trope of a young man dedicating everything for revenge, and like all revenges loosing and maybe finding himself in the process. ( )

Fantastic new (to me) series. Easy read, great on the depth of works created and read it end to end quickly.

What a phenomenal read! This book had me from page one, and kept me in it's grip to the last punctuation mark. I love the deep dive into the African folklore(esque) setting and the commitment to place and people names that will be difficult for a lot of readers.

The characters are incredible in this one. I love (and hate) them all with passion, which is everything I want from a book. Depth. Depth. And more depth. The world-building was vivid, but a little light for my tastes... I want to see more of the world and its people and I definitely want more of what was left behind!

Gruesome, but not in a shock-factor way. The despair was believable and important for character-building, which I loved.

Definitely give it a read! I'm plowing on to the second book, even though I know I'll have to wait at least a year for the third. ( )
