Excerpt from Selections From mile Zola: Edited With Introduction, Notes and Bibliography ON a beautiful midsummer morning at M dan, in his fascinating home, M. Zola gave me the authorization to prepare this series of extracts from his works. I renew to his memory the expression of my thanks to him. And I add others to M. Eug ne Fasquelle, who so willingly ratified the authorization of this book.
