Fantasy. Mythology. Romance. Young Adult Fiction. HTML:Duty, fate, desire, and destiny collide in this intricately wrought tale, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas.

Although she was born to save the kingdom by sacrificing herself to the rising sea, Khosa's marriage to King Vincent has redeemed her. As the Queen of Stille, she's untouchable. But being Queen hasn't stopped her heart from longing for the King's stepbrother, Donil. And it hasn't stopped her body from longing for the sea itself, which still calls for her.

While Khosa is made to choose between loyalty and love, Dara is on a mission for vengeance. Years ago, the Pietra slaughtered the entire Indiri race, leaving only Dara and her twin, Donil, alive. Now, spurned by King Vincent, Dara has embarked on a mission to spill the blood of Pietra's leader, Witt, and will stop at nothing to show his people the wrath of the last Indiri.

As the waves crash ever closer to Stille, secrets are revealed, hearts are won and lost, and allegiances change like the shifting sand.

Various Roles as Read by a Cast of Narrators:
Will Damron as Ank
Alex McKenna as Dara
Andrew Eiden as Donil

Normally, I would say I hate it and leave it at that. There was so much I hated but also a lot that I liked. Unfortunately a cool idea was lost to poor planning.

The Indiri sounded like such an interesting race and it annoys me that someone so bland as Khosa was the main character. McGinnis has these crazy ideas that usually pay off so I'm shocked how bad this idea turned out. How did such a good writer forget to write a plot for the first book in this series? Did she really think a cheesy happy ending where everyone wins would make us forget all the mistakes she made in this duet? No ma'am I will not forget.
Dara's journey to self-discovery was promising until it became reduced to a quest for lust and sexual gratification. Vincent was spineless until the very end but it's okay because he still gets the girl.
Khosa and Donil did not need to have a seperate POV. They both can be summed up with one that spole of their desire, betrayal and quite possibly...love? of each other? of Vincent?
I still almost forgot about Ank. What's the point of having him around if his identity was never going to be revealed?I get he was meant to be a foil to Vincent, or something, but that clearly didn't work.
You expect me to accept Witt has this hunky gorgeous body after making me completely forget him in the first book? Okaaaaay.

I liked the begining of Dara's travels. I liked Khosa's scroll investigation. I also liked her travels with Donil and the exploration of her feelings. But I can't recommend this book. ( )
