I really loved the focus on politics but also such a fun LBTQ relationship was so nice! I really grew to enjoy both characters but i adored the world building. I really loved the focus on politics but also such a fun LBTQ relationship was so nice! I really grew to enjoy both characters but i adored the world building. The story had so many twists and turns and i hope we one day get more. I thought it was well potted and so many twists and turns! Denna has long been betrothed to a prince from another kingdom, and she’s been raised and trained to fulfill the role of future queen, but when she arrives in her new home, despite her royal fiancé being perfectly lovely to her, her secret magical abilities, which she’s fought hard to master and conceal, start getting out of her control. It possibly has something to do with her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Mare, who is the mistress of the stables and a dab hand at fighting as well. When there’s a murder in the castle, Denna and Mare team up to find out who the culprit is, and they both must deal with their feelings toward one another. This one had so much potential and I was excited to read it, but boy, did it disappoint. I wanted to love it, but it’s just…boring. The characters are never developed – and the author *tells* us everything about their personalities without ever once *showing* us that those traits are there – and the plot is just as bland as the people inhabiting it. It’s a great idea for a story, but the execution is, sadly, sloppy and lazy. My heart felt light and happy at the thought of queer or questioning teenage girls reading this book and seeing their own feelings reflected back at them. I wish I had read this book when I was fourteen. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"Betrothed since childhood to the prince of Mynaria, Princess Dennaleia has always known what her future holds. Her marriage will seal the alliance between Mynaria and her homeland, protecting her people from other hostile kingdoms. But Denna has a secret. She possesses an Affinity for fire--a dangerous gift for the future queen of a land where magic is forbidden. Now Denna has to learn the ways of her new kingdom while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria's formidable warhorses before her coronation--and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly and unconventional Princess Amaranthine, sister of her betrothed. When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. As the two work together, they discover there is more to one another than they thought--and soon their friendship is threatening to blossom into something more. But with dangerous conflict brewing that makes the alliance more important than ever, acting on their feelings could be deadly. Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms--and each other." -- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
