An okay (but only okay) concept that completely fails to excite due to pretty bad writing. The book includes my most hated of modern crime tropes, multiple narrators for no reason. Here they add absolutely nothing and the book would be better (although still not great) with a single narrator. Worst of all was the unconvincingly neat ending. Bleagh ( ) **spoiler alert** Well written, but I have a number of issues with the story. An interesting premise: how does an amateur deal with a hit? The plot started too slow for my taste. I wouldn't have spent so much time in the wife's first person point of view. In contrast, not enough time was spent with the antagonist or foreshadowing to allow the reader to solve the mystery. Beyond that, the conclusion was too neat, too coincidental, particularly the hit going so badly that the victim could get back to work days later. Lastly, the two chapters in hard-to-read italics weren't necessary, since the salient points were immediately covered in the following chapter. The question that drives the entire storyline is "Would you kill your wife to save your child?" Obviously a situation that no one could... or should... be expected to answer one way or the other...but Nick Connors is seriously considering it. Nick is not a really likable character and he makes some borderline stupid decisions. His wife, Tasha, is almost indifferent to the kidnapping of their 5 year old daughter. The police are next to useless so you don't really have a character that you can feel any empathy for except Elle, the 5 year old daughter. I gave the book 4 stars. it did keep you reading just to see what dumb thing Nick was going to come up with next. It was a very short book and I think the plot could have been developed more but overall an enjoyable read. Nick Connor, to others, seems to have the perfect life; nice home, pretty wife, this completed with a precious five year old daughter named Amy. A kind of life everyone wants, but doesn't necessarily have. One day, Nick's wife Tasha, wakes father and daughter at 5:00 AM. Tasha is off on business and feels Nick will need this much time to get Amy ready and to school on time. Nick is very much insulted by her attitude of his parenting skills or maybe the lack thereof. Nick dozes off and wakes just in time to maybe get Amy to school before the late bell. After getting her ready and everything needed for the school day he has his daughter safely secured in her car seat. Amy suddenly loudly whines that she has left something in the kitchen that she must have at school that day. Nick decides it is best to give in than argue with herm, so he rushes back into the house to retrieve the item, only being gone, maybe a minute. When he returns Amy has disappeared without a trace. At this this point the police become involved in the search for Amy. Tasha blames Nick for leaving her alone that fateful minute, putting further strain on the situation. the reader learns that the police aren't included in all the information needed to find Amy as Nick begins receiving emails from someone named Jen Hood This mysterious person claims to have Amy and demands she will be released safely, after Nick kills his wife. Can Nick do the unthinkable? Will he, can he kill his wife and mother of their child to save his little girl? Should he have gone to the police immediately with the information? Now Nick is too deep in it to go back. This is a fast paced thriller that keeps the reader wondering all the way to the end of the book. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
