It just seemed like she wanted too badly to be included with a crowd of ‘friends’ that she had very little in common with. As the story progressed though, it became obvious that most of the characters were doing the same thing. I was very pleased with the friendship dynamic that eventually evolved, because it clear from the start that that is how it was supposed to be. I do see a future for this group of girls. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. After her best friend moves away to Texas she decides to go and stay the summer with her grandparents in the Lake Michigan town of Grand Haven. And next door is lurking none other than Simone Hendrickson a teen Idol and TV star. Hadley and Simone become friends and the drama begins! Boys lies and backstabbing are the name of the game in this entertaining novel. This was a great little read. This is the second novel that I've read by this author and I have to say that I really enjoy her work. She writes in a way that is very easy to follow and easy to comprehend. Her stories are riveting and her characters are adorable to say the least. Her stories almost seemed to speak from personal experience which I think is what I like the most about them. They bring me back to the days when I was the age of the characters in the novels and having the same High School drama and issues that they're going through. It is very comforting in that way knowing that others have gone through what I have. Hadley Daniels is tired of feeling invisible. After Hadley's best friend moves away and she gets on the bad side of some girls at school, she goes to spend the summer with her grandparents in the Lake Michigan resort town of Grand Haven. Her next door neighbor is none other than teen TV star Simone Hendrickson, who is everything Hadley longs to be-pretty, popular, and famous-and she's thrilled when Simone treats her like a friend. Being popular is a lot harder than it looks. It's fun and flattering when Simone includes her in her circle, though Hadley is puzzled about why her new friend refuses to discuss her former Hollywood life. Caught up with Simone, Hadley finds herself ignoring her quiet, steadfast friend, Charlotte. To make things even more complicated, along comes Nick Jenkins... He's sweet, good-looking, and Hadley can be herself around him without all the fake drama. However, the mean girls have other ideas and they fill Nick's head with lies about Hadley, sending him running back to his ex-girlfriend and leaving Hadley heartbroken. So when her parents decide to relocate to Grand Haven, Hadley hopes things will change when school starts...only to be disappointed once again. Cliques. Back-stabbing. Love gone bad. The author tells a wonderful story that brings everyday teen angst to the forefront. Friends are fickle, often switching best friends every time they have a disagreement with their current one and then dropping the new bestie and going back to the first one. We see them dancing around the who likes which boy issue and being disappointed in that boy does not like them back. Concern over how to dress and about wearing make-up all appear in this story. One thing that I particularly like is that even though Simone is famous, we see her as an everyday teen who wants to fit in and be popular.
Teen readers will recognize problems that they currently face. Older readers will look back and recognize many of the same issues that they had when they were in school.
