As she was taken from me I knew I might never see my daughter again. 38 years later ?You were adopted?. Three short words and Sabina?s life fractures. There would forever be a Before those words, and an After. Pregnant with her own child, Sabina can?t understand how a mother could abandon her daughter, or why her parents have kept the past a secret. Determined to find the woman who gave her away, what she discovers will change everything, not just for Sabina, but for the women who have loved her all these years. From the bestselling author of Me Without You comes another touching, beautifully told story about the pain of separation and the enduring strength of love. (less) Beautiful tearjerker. Oh wow. What an emotionally charged story! It is told from multiple points of view. What is it like to be an unwed teenage mother dumped in a government-run maternity home completely cut off from family and friends? What is it like to be a woman struggling to conceive and bear a child after multiple miscarriages? What is it like to be told out-of-the-blue that you are adopted? Everything is suddenly different. So many questions and so many emotions. Read it. You will love and hate this simultaneously. I really enjoyed this book! The natural pace of the book left me wanting more, even though the story was somewhat predictable. Enjoyable character development. The idea of forced adoption is unfathomable, which makes the book heartbreaking at times. In the end, this book made me miss my kids and want to give them a few extra hugs, so it definitely pulled the heartstrings!
