Would have preferred more history and context and less jokes. Some cool art throughout. ( ) Winning a free copy of The Rap Year Book: The Most Important Rap Song From Every Year Since 1979, Discussed, Debated, and Deconstructed from a goodreads contest, presented an interesting read. Several chapters/years were easy and fun to read, while others were a little more difficult to get through. The book however is full of Shea Serrano’s voice and opinions making it an enjoyable read. After lots of laughter, reminiscing, and listening to music, I've found a book that is definitely going to be going into my collection. Mr. Serrano had brilliantly hilarious commentary about several subjects, including murder, the depressing subject of "Brenda's Got a Baby", and instances in which to use his book as a shield (a prison riot). For someone not well versed in rap music, this book had a great deal of information that was new to me. In some places, I had to google or ask friends about stories and people due to my lack of familiarity. Overall, this book was informative and enjoyable. 4.5/5 stars. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
