Young children are curious about the world around them. Let's Play!, the second book in the Smart Start series for prereaders, fosters engaging conversations for parents and their children through the use of interactive questioning. Images in this book convey children in realistic and familiar stages of play, and each image's corresponding questions prompt children to think at critical, creative, and mathematical levels about their everyday surroundings and activities. The open-ended questions stimulate curiosity and invigorate conversations between parents and children. Let's Play!highlights the vast world of a child's imagination and encourages children to think deeply about the objects and situations they're faced with every day.… (plus d'informations)

I tried getting my nephew (who was newborn when I received this book originally) and a few family friends to take interest in the book & the activities. No-go. Not a single one of them was interested. :/ ( )

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I find it difficult to categorize this book. I believe that it suffers from trying to achieve too much with too little. I believe that if parents used the questions as a jumping-off point for framing further activities and conversation with their children that this text would prove itself useful, but as is, it's largely just frustrating.

As others have noted this book is very short, with pictures and then questions to ask your child about the pictures. There isn't a lot of content but this book is useful to put you in the mindset of asking about storybooks instead of just reading them. I'm an elementary school librarian and these questions are exactly the sort of thing to ask to get kids thinking critically. ( )

As an early childhood teacher, I thought this book was great. It encourages children to think about various play situations and use their imaginations. The questions are both factual and imaginative so they will appeal to most children. The book gives the child an opportunity to comment and think beyond the simple text and pictures. It will spark many discussion among the children or child and encourage verbalizing and sharing ideas. ( )

This book wasn't as helpful as I had hoped it would be.

1) It's very, very short. There isn't much in the way of content; so little in fact that the cynical part of me wondered why they bothered to publish it as a hardcover. It's 16 pages long, and half of those pages are color photographs. They even have a page at the end which reads, "For more great ideas, visit our website!" Well, gosh, if they had more material, why didn't they include it in the book to justify the $10.95 cover price?

2) The content doesn't really work for my kids. I have a pair of 3 year olds. Admittedly, that's the low end of the recommended age range, but the conversation starters are too advanced, even for my bright, engaged tots. It might work better with older kids, like 5 years.

3) They weren't interested. My kids have memorized Dr. Seuss, Mo Willems, etc and read those books to themselves. They look at every page of my yarn catalogs with me. This book, they flipped through it and never picked it up again, with or without me.
