A l'université, Keller avait un professeur qui affirmait que la civilisation se résumait à une question de plomberie. Grosso modo, les infrastructures permettant d'apporter l'eau propre et évacuer les eaux usées étaient ce qui permettait aux individus de se rassembler massivement dans des habitations permanentes et de créer des villes et des cultures. Ce roman de Don Winslow est la suite d'un de ses précédents livres intitulé La griffe du chien qui était vraiment excellent. L'auteur réussit la performance de hisser Cartel au moins au même niveau. Les personnages sont tous très aboutis, qu'ils soient de premiers plans ou pas, masculins ou féminins. L'auteur s'est très bien documenté et cela se ressent tout au long du livre. Enfin, la lutte entre Art Keller et Adán Barrera est très bien menée et nous tient vraiment en haleine de la première à la dernière page et il est très difficile de poser le roman. Un véritable chef d'œuvre ! (
