There is a note to the reader in the front of the book from author Sandra Brown explaining that prior to writing general fiction she wrote romances. The title of “Eloquent Silence” was originally published >10 years ago under her first pen name of Rachel Ryan.
I enjoyed the book for what it is … a happily ever after - short novel of escape … what I personally refer to as a ‘good beach book’. And I absolutely loved the way the author brought the title into the last chapter. It’s a beautiful description that I won’t share here as I don’t want my review to be a “spoiler” but it definitely touched my heart for a variety of reasons.
The storyline has some unexpected twists but overall is rather predictable but sometimes predictable is a comfort and I’ve never met a ‘happy ending ‘romance that in some way didn’t touch my heart. Perhaps that’s because I’ll always believe in romance – no matter the age of the characters – no matter the age of the author – no matter the age of myself as the reader. So sit back and enjoy!

Laurie has agreed to teach his daughter at his home and take her out of the institution she was placed in because he couldn't do it all himself an be a soap opera actor.
She, at dinner, tells Drake about her husband and never wants to talk about it again.
Jennifer is the little girl and they try many things to get her to open up and understand although she is deaf.
She knows she can't love him because he's still in love with his ex-wife.
The girls have traveled to the family home in New Mexico and is a very nice 2 story chalet type house. Mountains on one side and very spacious rooms.
She becomes friends with the woman next door and her two small children.
He surprised her in the bathtub by showing up, he went to make a meal for them and she went to get dressed.
They are surprised when her parents come to visit and stay for a few days, at his house. ( )

Typical early contemporary Brown. The characters make or break her books. ( )

Typical chick lit. Teacher of deaf children is hired to tutor the 3 year old daughter of a daytime soap star. He's your typical arrogant Neanderthal and she can't help herself but fall for him. He tells her he doesn't want a commitment because he mourning his dead wife. Story follows the typical path. ( )

This is another oldie by Brown. Hero is a complete asshole, a self centered actor and not inclined to share his reasonings or feelings with the heroine. But I loved the heroine who is a teacher and hero's deaf daughter. (Grade: C+) ( )
