A Cold War bunker now used as a day trip destination for tourists ... A twin who died in mysterious circumstances ... A family lured to a special place at a particular time ... And then the darkness falls. The story: Dan Tracy has left school to become home-educated by his dad, after some unspecified and mysterious 'difficulties' at school. When the family wins a rather unusual holiday competition, they set off on what begins as a regular family holiday. But on a day-trip to a disused Cold War bunker, the family gets caught up in life-threatening events which have cast a sudden and terrible darkness over the surface of the planet, putting all known life to sleep and causing havoc in its wake. Dan's family are separated in the panic that follows. 24 hours after the darkness descends, the bunker undergoes a massive transformation and it emerges that the dusty old Cold War bunker is actually a state-of-the-art operations centre which has been hiding in open view for many decades - but its modern-day purpose is unclear. Trapped inside the bunker as deadly events unfold beyond its heavy doors, it soon emerges that those caught inside were gathered there at a specific time by an unknown organisation. Dan realises that he and his family are part of something bigger than they could ever have imagined and the world is in perilous danger from a malevolent organisation based on earth, with hints of extraterrestrial connections. As the story moves to its climax, Dan makes an incredible discovery which could threaten the very existence of life on Earth - and finds that the key to human survival lies in his own genes and those of his twin, who died in a tragic road accident several years earlier. Separated from his family as the entire planet becomes surrounded by a deathly blackness, Dan Tracy must figure out what's going on below ground. The bunker is at the centre of a conspiracy to destroy the Earth - but there's something special about Dan and his twin that could stop the terrorists dead in their tracks. It's a race against time as the process of destruction has already begun ... Who will be left to hear Earth's final screams? The Secret Bunker: Darkness Falls is the first in a trilogy of books by author Paul Teague. What readers are saying The Secret Bunker set a quick pace towards a culmination of events with a meeting of all the main characters and left me gripped along the way. It's not often I pre order the next book but I did in this case, there's no way I'm missing what happens next. I'm fascinated by the fact that Paul manages to provide an authentic teenage voice for his prime character all the way through. Looking forward to seeing what comes in the second of the trilogy which I've already pre-ordered, need I say more? Really enjoyed this adventure seen through the eyes of the teenage lead character - his voice was so true and compelling. I'm looking forward to reading the others and would rather like to go and visit the real bunker! Thoroughly enjoyed this as it keeps you intrigued all the way through. Must get on to part 2 now. I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down, I can't wait to see what happens next in book two! 5 Stars, I really enjoyed it! ... the action is intense and lots of twists and turns abound until the last page is turned. At the conclusion, the reader is left wondering about many events that are still in progress. Wow...... The characters are well defined, plot is fantastic and the ending leaves us waiting for the next part. At least February is not too far off! Most highly recommended.… (plus d'informations)

It was supposed to be a fun little holiday that Dan’s father had won, a tour of an old war bunker in Scotland. However, things turn desperate when the sirens start up and the bunker doors begin to close. Dan sees his father pull his brother and sister deeper into the bunker, while he also sees his mother getting trapped outside as the doors close. Then, the lights go out. Something Dan sees brings up the memory of losing his twin who was hit by a car three years ago, but are the facts of that day in the past truly correct? Meanwhile, the emergency that triggered the alarms and closing of the doors was a strange darkness that suddenly began to envelop the globe. What is the cause of this strange event? This is the first book of a trilogy, so it is important to capture the reader’s attention in this opening book in order to draw the reader into delving into the subsequent books. Yet, the way the author has chosen to present this complex story is like one of his sub-chapter titles, “Jigsaw.” Sub-chapters shift from Dan’s first person narration of the story of what he sees and uncovers from the time of the bunker doors closing to third person perspectives from unknown characters at different times from thirty years previous to the current action with no obvious segues between these moments. Jigsaw pieces of the story appear to be randomly tossed out for the reader to hold and slowly put together. This requires a lot of patience for the reader, but if one is willing to hang in and keep track of the timeline as the pieces come together, then a complex sci-fi mystery thriller begins to form, incorporating a secret global conspiracy for both good and evil, global warming concerns, secret mind-control methods, grand cybernetic hacking, and genetic engineering plots that gradually reveal a set of heroes against secret villains that will be revealed in the subsequent novels. The concepts unveiled are imaginative; however, they turn out to be highly hyped-up and a bit unrealistic in range within a story set in present day Earth. If rabid sci-fi fantasy fans are prepared, this tale and its partners in the trilogy could be a very satisfactory read. ( )
