Haunted by the unforgettable image of Evan's death, Max's entire world is upended as he suddenly finds himself the target of a corporate-government witch-hunt. Fearing for his life and fighting for his own innocence, Max goes on the run with no one to trust and too many unanswered questions. What. A. Book.

I will admit that I was uncertain going into The Silence of Six, as I do not usually read books dealing with computer hackers and conspiracies, but I am so glad that I decided to pick up this book.

After his best friend publicly kills himself on live television, Max is thrown into a wild chase to figure out exactly what Evan meant by ‘the silence of six’ and why it is so important. Max has to dust off his old hacking skills while on the run from the FBI to finish what Evan started, and he’ll make some allies along the way – and some more enemies as well.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time while reading this novel and I was quite surprised at some of the twists that were thrown into the story. I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters, especially Penny and her sister Risse. This is a very timely novel and I feel as though something like this could happen in our lifetime (or could be happening as we speak). It also left me feeling like I need to be more aware of my own computer security and that I should probably take some bigger measures in securing my information. Thankfully, I don’t have to sorry about the government chasing me down for computer hacking anytime soon… my skills stop at coding a basic website.

I definitely recommend this book if you have any interest in computers, hacking, conspiracies, or are just looking for a new young-adult thriller to read. ( )

After finishing the first chapter I was already hooked and wanting to buy the second book and the prequel.
This book is about a boy named Evan Baxter who was a genius computer hacker who killed himself during a presidential debate and his best friend Max Stein. Max must figure out what the silence of six is and what he can do about it.
This book focuses with advanced technology, government conspiracy, an upcoming presidential election, and the biggest social networking site.
Max used to be a computer hacker as well and he is forced to go back to it so he can figure out what caused his best friend to commit suicide all while being on the run from the FBI.
I had such a hard time putting this book down, it was an 'edge of the seat', 'can't get enough' kind of book for me. I enjoyed seeing how Max and some of his fellow hackers solve each problem to the puzzle of the silence of six, how Max was able to figure out what Evan was talking about with only subtle hints.
Throughout the book I fell in love Evan, he gave his life to solve this problem and put his trust in his best friend and a few others. All the main characters were easy to grow attached to.
This book, for me, always kept me guessing. I was never able to figure out all the clues and was completely thrown with all the plot twists.
I am very impressed with this book and am planning to buy the second book this weekend. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes action packed, mystery, thrillers. ( )

What is The Silence of Six? you ask. Well, it's exactly what the characters in this book are trying to figure out.

When his best friend, apparently without reason, interrupts a political debate at his school to talk about 'The silence of Six' before killing himself, Max is forced to return to his former group of hackers. Something might be seriously wrong.

I've never read a YA thriller that was anything near realistic, and this is no exception. But if you don't try to look at that too much, it was an enjoyable read. Definitely one of the better YA thrillers involving young hackers I've read. It took some time before I was able to get into the story, but once that happened, I read it in one go.

There are lots of chases, escapes and fights, so if you're into that kind of stories, you'll probably enjoy it. It left, however, not really a lot of space for character development, and besides Max perhaps, all the supporting characters felt like cardboard (jumping into the story when convenient). Is it surprising people are being killed to cover up a secret? I don't really think so. Is it surprising people are still surprised to find that nothing on the internet is really 'private'? Yes, I would have thought everyone knew this by now.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! ( )

It took me a while to get around to starting this book, but once I started, I got through it in one day. It hooked me. I can see why it was selected as a "2016 Top Ten Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers" by the YASLA division of the ALA. It was a sort of "Hackers" meets "Mr. Robot" story in a YA setting. I would definitely recommend it. ( )
