This is definitely written like a cheap romance novel without the payoff. It's mostly mediocre dialogue with a lot of frustrating back-and-forth between characters. People who love British period dramas like Pride and Prejudice will probably enjoy this book but I find it boring. In my opinion, the title and cover are very misleading because, besides the fact that Teach later becomes Blackbeard, I wanted some actual pirate action and halfway through the book, we've hardly even stepped on a ship. It's almost all about Anne's daily chores and her stealing or eavesdropping on the upper class. 2 stars because it's exactly not horrible, but definitely not for me or what I expected. I really liked this book, however it did take me a while to finish it. I know my mood played a big part, but the writing style was also slower paced. While there were slivers of action, most of the story was a slow build feel with classic features. For me, it worked. The story was about a biracial girl trying to find a place in an aristocracy world. She worked as a maid until her true identity was revealed and then became a lady of the house. She didn't expect to fall for the master's son, but when she did her every move became dangerous. It was a whirlwind of hidden emotions, dark secrets, and one big fat cliffhanger. While I know many will argue that nothing happens in this book, I will say this... if you appreciate well read characters, sexual tension, and strong heroines.... Read this one. I can't wait to start the sequel. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
