Fern is a princess wannabe. She travels in a book to go ask a real princess what it's like. When she finally meets the princess, the princess says she rather be surrounded by friends and a good book. This makes fern realize that she has just that. This can teach children that they should enjoy what they have. I loved the characters and the illustrations in this story. It was very amusing and it catches the reader's attention. ( )

This story is about a little girl who dreams of becoming a princess like the ones that she reads about in fairytales. Her baby sitter has her hands full and so she decides to read a bed time story herself. She wants to ask a princess what it is really like being a princess, and the princess replies that she would rather not be treated like a princess and stay in bed and read stories with her friends. This made Fern realize that she has been given what others may want. This sends the message to young readers that they should be content and grateful for what they have because you don’t know what the other person is going through. ( )

I thought this was a fantastic book. The characters in it were the best part. Throughout the story the main character, Fern, encounters many different fairy tale characters, except they're quite different from how they appear in the stories she's read. The Big Bad Wolf is babysitting piglets, the frog prince is brushing his teeth, and the man eating giant is directing traffic in the sky! these dynamic and unusual characters would be very interesting to a young reader. I also really enjoyed the illustrations in this book. They are silly enough to be very entertaining, and vibrant enough to pull the reader into the story. This book big idea is to always be happy with what you have. After all, Fern eventually found out that the princess only wanted the life Fern already had. ( )

Fern wants to be a princess and loves to read about them. She is taken into a story world and finally meets a princess who wishes that she could do things that Fern gets to do all the time. This is a cute story with a lesson about gratitude. ( )

As popular as princess books are, and as much as princesses still err on the side of waiting for the prince, this feminist antidote to the typical princess book makes this one a bit of a standout. Fern just wants storytime but the babysitter is busy with the baby and resistant to reading fairy tales because they end the same way. When Fern tumbles into the world of fairy tales, she discovers a topsy turvy world: a fairy godmother fixing leaky pipes, a guard afraid of mice, and a wolf pigsitting ("bad behavior is just his day job.") Great for a read aloud, this book will have listeners chuckling at the twists amidst familiar characters. ( )
