It's a survivalist tale written during two periods of time. A storyteller, together with the group he's with, are traveling during a time after the destruction of the old world. He's telling a story to a young boy about a family and their efforts to survive during the time before the destruction of the world. Both time periods are futuristic to our present-day time. Although the story is influenced by the biblical Abraham, there is no need to be familiar with the Bible to appreciate this story. This book can be appreciated on its own merits. In fact, although I am familiar with the Biblical references, the Abraham in this book reminded me more of Rick from "The Walking Dead" as he struggled to make hard daily decisions in order to keep his loved ones safe. There was also a reference made in the book that reminded me of an old "Twilight Zone" episode (nothing paranormal). The horror in the book was done very tactfully and not done in a sensationalist manner. The book is a quick read as the writer knows how to pack a lot into a scene in few words. There was very good character development and building of suspense. All in all, a very thought-provoking, entertaining dystopian novel. I received a digital copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review. I hate giving books less than three stars. I have read another book by this same author and loved it. I just could not make a connection with this story. Its perfectly readable. I did not; not want to finish it and see it through to the end. There were some aspects that confused me. I could not connect to the characters, I really didn't like or dislike any of them. For me it simply fell flat. I do like the world the story takes place in, as I said I read another book by this author and loved it. I plan on reading his third book. Don't let my opinion dissuade you from this story. Sometimes we just don't connect. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Before the world ended Abraham was a young successful lawyer with a wife and child. He was no different than anyone else. That all changed suddenly when the old nation was taken over by a hostile foreign power, and Abraham was forced to make the most important choice of his life. Stay and be subject to the arbitrary whims of the invaders, or abandon his home for the unlikely prospect of freedom. But the Angles Never Came takes place within the same world as Farmers and Cannibals, Just After the Fall, and Short Stories from the Year 2065 and the Decades that Followed Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

Too similar to the other PA books out there. What I couldn't make sense of was why cannibalism? The whole part with the insane kings was unbearable and the foreshadowing wasn't subtle at all.
