Took me longer than usual to read some parts were slow for me. When first starting the book, it reminded me a bit of "Criminal Minds". I had a hard time with some of the British terminology/slang. I will most likely try the next book in series but may wait until a published copy is available. ( ) Eeny Meeny by M J Arlidge is the first in a police procedural series set in the Southampton, England area and features DI Helen Grace. The novel introduces Helen Grace and her team as they investigate an unusual serial killer case. Pairs of people are being abducted and then given a choice, kill or be killed. The killer’s twisted game supplies them with a gun but no food or water. If a kill is made, the survivor is released. It becomes apparent that there is a slight connection between DI Grace and the victims. We are given snippets of information that allow us to realize that the murders are all being directed at Helen Grace and that there is a connection between the killer and the policewoman. The author does not delve into character development, instead he relies on the fast moving story to engage the reader. Helen Grace has her secrets and only a few are finally revealed in this book, I suspect there is a lot more to learn about Helen Grace in future books. Eeny Meeny is an action driven story with a strong but far from perfect female lead. It aims at giving the reader an adrenaline rush but not a lot of substance which makes it a good beach read. Two people are kidnapped, locked in a room with a gun and only one of them will walk out alive. Detective Helen Grace must find out who the kidnapper is, but as more people get kidnapped the hunt becomes more and more intense as the police try to figure out what links the kidnappings together... I usually find no problems with reading books out of order nowadays. But, in this case, I kind of regret that I read Pop Goes the Weasel before I read Eeny Meeny. Why? Because a bit of the enjoyment of reading this book is gone because I knew who the person is who is behind the kidnappings. Don't get me wrong, the book was great, but I knew what would happen at the end of the book and that's just a takes away some of the thrills of the ending when everything is revealed. Despite that, I enjoyed reading about the hunt for the kidnapper. I'm glad I read this because now I understand Helen and Charlies strained relationship in the sequel. I also look forward to reading more books in this series since it has become a favorite of mine.

HTML:The "dark, twisted, thought-provoking" (#1 New York Times bestseller Tami Hoag) international bestsellerâ??first in the new series featuring Detective Helen Grace. Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive. It's a game more twisted than any Detective Helen Grace has ever seen. If she hadn't spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn't believe them. Helen is familiar with the dark sides of human nature, including her own, but this caseâ??with its seemingly random victimsâ??has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense.... From the Trade Paperback edit Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
