Disturbing read for anyone. Especially the parents of young children. When Josie is abducted less than a mile from her home the questions begin being asked that will lead to an evil the town has never seen before and that has spawned over many years. ( )

The author has picked a good subject for a thriller, and the setup and eventually realized reasoning behind it are both chilling. After a somewhat meandering opening where we get to know our central character, things move very fast. Good for those who simply must finish the book in one sitting (I did because our power was out; no doubt sitting on my front porch in a quiet, darkened neighborhood with only my Kindle to light the dark added to my intrigue). Still, it felt a little too abrupt in the writing, especially as conversations became stilted. Pacing is vital to a good thriller; this book falls a bit short. Some reworking (including some lengthening that allows the situation and characters more fleshing out) could improve the tale dramatically. The title begs for more psychological development.

Still, the story (and what it sparks in the imagination) sends ice cubes down the spine. A quick, dark ride. ( )
