Here we have a more adult version of the beloved fairytale, Beauty and The Beast. Mix that with a touch of the traditional werewolf and you have a hero that you really hate to love. If you're a fan of the TV series Once Upon a Time like I am, you will be intrigued with Marina Myles' spin off of the tale. Just as they integrate old stories to have a more in depth plot, so has Miss Myles in Beauty and the Wolf.

I'll be honest, I was a little wary of this being another book about a werewolf, but it really wasn't too bad. Just like the vampire stories, I can only read one of these every once in a while because they have been so incredibly worn out. Lucky for me, the plot was enough to keep me going.

There were twists where I was entirely caught off guard and everything I believed up until that point was a lie. But it's okay, I survived it. And that just adds more meat to the story. The main characters were pretty well developed. Sometimes I felt that Isabella, the heroine, was slightly inconsistent, but Draven was such a well in-depth tortured soul that it made up for it enough. I thought it was a little odd that they claimed Isabella was "so beautiful" and had many prospects before Draven, yet no one had proposed to her. If this was written back in the 1800s, that seems slightly out of place.

Easy read. Good storyline. Steamy romance. Probably could use a little more work to be fully well-rounded, but it's definitely worth a read and I am looking forward to the next installment! ( )

A thoroughly enjoyable historical paranormal romance. A good mix of sizzling romance and heart wrenching angst with a delightful cast of characters. I loved both Draven and Isabella. Both were strong willed and determined to see things through to their own needs and desires but find themselves intrigued with each other. The two curses working against each other were fascinating. I loved Egyptian and Gypsy lore mixed together along with the fairy tale retelling.

A very satisfying read and I look forward to more from this author.

I'm a sucker for a good historical romance. I'm also a sucker for a historical romance with some supernatural goodness thrown in the mix. Not every author can combine ancient Egyptian gems with werewolves and Gypsy curses and make it believable. It was believable to me in this story and I really enjoyed the dual curse portion of the book. The reveal and finish was a touch anti-climactic to me but the rest of the book was pretty busy so I can deal.

My one problem with this story was the heroine. For about 80% of this book, she was almost intolerable. One minute Isabella was ready to proclaim her love, the next she's coldly rejecting Draven over something she already knows he can't control. She snoops through his things and finds out why he is the way he is, but the following day she's leaving him to himself. She was way too wish-washy for me. The book was supposed to be about redeeming Draven from his selfish ways but I think the person who needed it was Isabella. She conveniently forgot her own ulterior motives for returning to the marriage (to trap Draven, how noble of her) and found any reason she could to tell Draven she was going to leave him again after promising him she'd help. Despite knowing his reasons why he would have preferred not to get her pregnant, she still chose to twist the issue and say he robbed her of motherhood. She knew everything, yet she still acted as though Draven did this on purpose. He bared his soul while she said nothing. I just couldn't get behind her. Some of the speech was a little too flowery for what I perceived Draven's character to be, but it made sense. I enjoyed a lot of the book, but Isabella was quite awful for most of it and this took away from the enjoyment for me. ( )

Lord Draven Winthrop spent time in an asylum when he was 16 and he believes he’s under a rauna curse, so his prospects for making a good marriage are dismal. Isabella Farrington’s prospects are no better since she is believed to be cursed by an Egyptian amulet given to her by her father after an archaeological dig. In addition, they have run out of money to support themselves. Isabella marries Draven to save herself and her father from starvation even though she doesn’t know him very well and Draven marries Isabella for her curse since she is fated to kill her lover and he wants his life ended. But in this using of each other they find something else. The question is can they survive being doubly cursed?

The premise for this story is intriguing, but I had a hard time connecting to the main characters. Their emotions jumped around so wildly and it seemed like Isabella kept leaving only to return again. The plot wasn’t too bad and though I had an inkling of what the twist was before it was revealed, it was still a decent one. I think the story would have faired better with more development and less rushing to the conclusion. ( )
