A Wedding in Springtime 2 Stars During her social debut, Miss Eugenia Talbot, commits the most egregious of faux pas when she laughs in the presence of the Queen. Her reputation in tatters, Genie must marry and quickly. Unrepentant rake, William Grant, the man responsible for Genie's predicament takes it upon himself to aid in the quest for a groom, However, it soon becomes clear to him that he desires the position for himself. Despite the rather promising premise, A Wedding in Springtime falls completely flat mainly due to the fact that in addition to the plot outlined above, there are numerous additional storylines and a multitude of characters, none of which are sufficiently developed. The author alternates between the primary romance between Genie and Grant, and a secondary romance (which is not only more compelling, but also remains unresolved until book #3 in the series) between James, Duke of Marchford, and Miss Penelope Rose his grandmother's companion. There is also a third romance between Genie's cousin, Louisa (James's betrothed) and the family physician. Confused yet?! Lets add in the street urchin, the French spy and the Dowager Duchess who seeks to supplement her allowance by opening ... a matchmaking service. It sounds like some sort of bad bar joke, doesn't it? To top it all off, the writing is stiff and monotonous, the descriptions excessively detailed and the dialogue adds nothing to either characterization or plot development. I'll not even bother with the characters, most of whom are stereotypical and unappealing. All in all, the only thing the story has going for it besides the rather likable Penelope, is the fact that it is free for Kindle. A WEDDING IN SPRINGTIME by Amanda Forester is an exciting Regency Historical Romance. A fresh new look in Regency Romance by an Highlander Romance author. What a new beginning. #1 in the "Marriage Mart". Miss Eugenia Talbot and Mr. William Grant are on a quest to find a brilliant marriage but not to each other or are they? Danger, passion, deceit, intrigue, treason, and romance are just a few things that fill the pages of "A Wedding in Springtime". Well written and a cast of characters that will keep you turning pages. A great read! Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley. RATING: 4 HEAT RATING: SWEET REVIEWED BY: AprilR, Review courtesy of My Book Addiction and More This was the first book by Ms. Forester that I've read and while I love the genre of historical romance I'm not sure if I would put her into my auto-buy list. I found that there were entirely too many characters and most were pretty dull. The book was suppose to be about Grant and Genie and while they did have a portion of the book there were two other couples vying for space in the book. Then there was the other subplots going on and at times the book was just kinda...boring. I'm sure at some point I'll pick up the second book in the series when it comes out, but I won't be in a hurry to read it. I guess I would recommend this book if your looking for some light fluff to read, but don't expect a deep set of characters or an all consuming love fest. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
