The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is probably one of the infamous short story that was comparable to Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart. Much as I enjoy the adaptations from the story, somehow this reimagining had done the story poorly despite the promising premise. Set in modern days in Tarrytown, New York, the legend haunt the town after a college guy was killed after his 'friends' attack him with a beer bottle and tied him up over a railway track and threatened him over basketball scholarship and passing a grade. They left the beheaded body and keep the whole incident silent and the death was then ruled as a suicide. But, a headless horseman appears and started to kill the boys one by one. Although I enjoy the legend and some of the artwork especially the gore and the horseman parts, as a whole, this is just a bad adaptation to the story. As classic Zenescope, the female characters are basically overly sexy sexual fiends while since all the male characters are jocks, the story just lost its steam. There are no quality toward the storytelling which is quite saddening since the artist are very talented. But the headless horseman seem to came out from Nicolas Cage's movie, Ghost Rider. Then all went downhill from there. If you like watching how easily heads popping out from the spine and the excessive blood sputtering out on the ground live a river, this is probably a good read for you. If you want blood and gore mixed with horror? This would be a miss for you. The ARC is provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Background: The legend of Sleepy Hollow has been a classic for centuries, and in modern day Tarrytown the legend begins to come back to life. The Headless Horseman is back to claim the head of those that betrayed him. Review: I enjoy the story lines of the Grimm Tales, but always have a bit of an issue with the women in the drawing. They are huge chested and overly sexy, which works great for the male population I guess but it deters me from loving the graphic novels. Anywho, the plot here was great, a modern retelling of Sleepy Hollow; Headless Horseman, blood and guts and missing heads…marvelous! I love the story. Here we are in Tarrytown at the college and there is a betrayal amongst friends that spurs from cheating on exams. I think the modern take was done well, it was interesting and there were a few surprises along the way too. The drawing was great, very graphic though, so lots of blood and missing heads, as well as crazy eyeballs. Not for those that do not like violence, and if you have an issue with women with giant unrealistic chests I would steer clear as well. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
