Really good. Perfect sense of sci-fi geeky tone and details that added to the movie novelization. ( )

Followed the movie exactly - of course! Enjoyed reading it and now want to watch it again, and again. ( )

Star Trek Into Darkness is a media tie-in book to the film that is currently out in cinemas, sequel to the 2009 Star Trek film.

If you've seen Into Darkness in the cinemas already (I haven't) then essentially what you saw is what you're going to get in the book. The writing is simple and easy to read, but there are a few instances where you can be jerked out of the story by the phrasing of a couple of words.

There are a fair few epithets put in place for Spock that aren't needed. Often in place of his name, Spock is called 'his friend' when he and Kirk are in conversation. "The science officer" and "the Vulcan". Really, we only need to hear his title and species once before we remember. Please do not call him an epithet more than once (introduce him as his title on the Enterprise when you introduce him, have a character say his name, and then never use that epithet from that point onward). It gets very tedious having to go back and see just whom Kirk is talking to.

Give the book Star Trek Into Darkness a chance if you feel up for a light read; it doesn't matter whether or not you've seen the movie or not. ( )

Let's take a look at Star Trek Into Darkness which was written after the movie of the same name was released. For die-hard Trekkie fans, this is definitely a book that you want to pick up. It was so good that I never wanted it to end. For those who haven't seen the film (or who aren't really into Star Trek at all), this is the story of how one man came into his own when pitted against a ruthless adversary who by all accounts was unbeatable. James Tiberius Kirk is the newly appointed Captain of the USS Enterprise but at this stage he's definitely still wet behind the ears and he makes mistakes which come with very big consequences. At the same time, the reader is introduced to a character with motivations that are not immediately apparent and it is uncertain exactly what type of a person he actually is (his identity is in question as well). There is conflict, intrigue, heroism, tragedy, and courage on every single page. Go forth and read it!! ( )

Star Trek has always been a part of my childhood. It has been a beloved series to me for many years. I have loved the twists and turns that have taken place throughout the ever expanding generations. This story is yet another curve in the road known as Star Trek and this road takes its readers on one hell of a journey. All of the past experiences that have been memorized by readers and remembered by the characters have been thrown to the wind. Instead, a new set of experiences await the readers that challenge the patience and tolerance of most Star Trek fans. This book is about a man named Khan and how he brought down the destruction of both the federation and a beloved captain. It is the story of a group of people who must push themselves beyond their limits in order to save themselves. By defying past prejudices and working toward a better future, the Enterprise crew makes a solid place for themselves in history.

This book was an interesting twist for me. I have to admit that it is not my favorite, since I personally do not like the new take on Star Trek. I am a fan of the traditional Star Trek and do not understand why they changed things. The story was still very good and fun to read. I loved Scotty and found him to be the most interesting character out of all of the crew. I do not like the new Kirk or the new Spock. I enjoyed Uhura as always and found the rest to be acceptable. If you are a diehard fan of the past Star Trek series than you are probably not going to enjoy the new spin on things. It is a complete flip flop of everything that happened in the past books and is almost laughable in some situations. If you are brand new to the series than this is a great book to read. I recommend this book to those readers that are new to the series and are looking for something different to read. Other than that it is almost an insult to the history of Stark Trek itself. ( )
