This book started out strong and the idea of someone not standing up for a display of patriotism is certainly relevant today. However, towards the middle to second third of the book, Arnold’s life on the lam started to become a little unbelievable. I had a horrible time finishing this book. One of the things I try to determine is the author's message, which I can only assume is "the world doesn't make any sense." The Man Who Wouldn’t Stand Up is a mix of life and unpredictability. Starting with the main character not standing up at a baseball game the storyline of the character then spirals down as he is then labeled as a terrorist and goes into hiding. These spirals leave the reader confused as the main character is taken to extremes such as becoming a nude bandit. The end of the book is just that an ending that lacks emotion and closure for the reader. Ultimately this book lacks relatability for the reader and at parts makes the reader question whether society could ever be this way. ( ) Preston.Kringle | Jul 4, 2020 | 4.25 stars.
