Enzo is a reporter for a San Francisco newspaper who is assigned the task of covering the campaign for state governor by a prominent gay lawyer. But suddenly things go wrong with the campaign. In my opinion there was unnecessary detail about food and clothes, neither of which adds to the story. Combine this with a lack of detail where it's needed produces a story which was hard to wade through at times. Particularly when combined with a slow build-up. Things got moving when a disgruntled army vet came to town wanting to kill the gay contender. In my opinion this part of the story was better written, but still suffered from the odd bit of extra detail about food and clothes. The climax was well timed although the suspense could have been heightened more. In my opinion this book was better than its predecessor "Project Moses". This suggests that things could improve further with the next instalment in the Enzo Lee series. Alright, I admit this will probably never be regarded as classic literature. But it is a quick paced, action adventure, and I really like Enzo Lee, who is the main character. This is the second book by Lowe that I have read featuring his beleaguered newspaperman, Lee. Lowe does a wonderful job of characterization and the plot and antagonists have been ripped from the front page of public debate. Take a conservative, evangelical church, add a gay candidate for the office of governor of California, then mix in a militant former Ranger, and our reluctant investigative reporter has a mystery on his hands, as well as front page news. What makes Lee such a wonderful character is that he is not really special in the sense of Bond or Bourne, but he is smart and compassionate, and though he tries not to, he genuinely cares about others. In my humble opinion, it is Lee that makes Lowe's books so memorable. His plots and settings are imaginative and contemporary to modern life, but in the end it is Lee that makes the books both readable and enjoyable. Enzo Lee is a newspaper reporter, asked to cover the campaign of Andrew Harper, a liberal, openly gay man running for governor of California. One crisis after another seems to plague the campaign – from rogue crop-dusters to carefully orchestrated but phony scandals. Enzo is soon convinced that these mishaps are more than coincidences, and that the conservative candidate, and his associates with the Soldiers of Christ Ministry, is behind the sabotaging Mr. Harper’s campaign. As the story moves on, it becomes clear that not only is Mr. Harper’s campaign in danger, but that his opponents will stop at nothing to win the election. This book had everything you’d want in a thriller – believable characters, a well drawn-out intricate plot, and fast paced action. It takes place in San Francisco - those familiar with the city will enjoy the author's knowledge of the Bay Area. The story is told well, with just the right amount humor and side-stories to keep it entertaining. Devine Fury is definitely written far better than the typical indie book, with meticulous attention to detail. It’s a very enjoyable read and one that I think deserves five stars. Highly recommended. Divine Fury: An Enzo Lee Mystery Thriller by Robert B. Lowe 5 STARS Wow! This book was a ride up and down. I was given this ebook by the author and asked to review it when I was done. The story made me think a lot. My personal thoughts are closer to the bad guys in the book. I am conservative. Thinking gays, sex without marriage is a sin, murder, stealing, hate are also sins. I decided that my review of the book might be influneced by my beliefs. This is the second Enzo Lee Mystery that I have read. I have enjoyed both books. The plot tells the story in a few persons and all tie really well in the end. At the start I was wondering. Enzo Lee is a newspaper reporter that only wants to work on fluffy stories anymore. He has made a nice place for himself in San Fransico paper. Is boss wants him to help out by covering Scott Truman's murder. He ends up doing it. He is later asked to cover some politics of Andrew Harper a Gay man that has a good chance to win the Goverenship of California. Thier is some people who want to stop a gay man as Govenor. One church is issueing lots of hate and bringing up abortion. Thier are some really hate filled web sites thier. Terminator is hired to cause Andrew Harper failer in politics. He has hired a computer expert to write a virus that will spy on Harper's campagn. Then make what plans he have go wrong any he can. While the computer hacker is in a building late to plant the virus he runs into Scott in the building. Scott is killed and the body moved to a different site. Terminator gets big boat out in the bay to disrupt Andrew Harper's press conference that ends up with reporters in the water after the bigger boat gets close to the littler boat. A returning soldier in Montanna was sent home out of the army after his buddy was killed next to him and he had a brain injury. He has been buying lots of guns. taking lots of pills and is filled with hate. Thier is so much hate against everyone who does not believe like they do. Made me think okay I believe this but this is wrong way to go about it. Just kept in the back of my mind okay this is bad oh I like that point. I did get lost in the story. It has lots of action, politics, bombs but also lots of characters and thier relationship to each other made you root for them. I will look forward to more Enzo Lee Mystery Thrillers to come. I like Robert B. Lowe's writing style. Publisher: Enzo Publications (November 29, 2012) ISBN-10: 0988644819 288 pages aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Appartient à la sérieEnzo Lee Mystery (Book 2)
San Francisco lawyer Andrew Harper has the inside track to become the next governor of California. But Harper is gay. And the prospect of having him become the first openly gay governor in America has ultraconservatives and religious leaders in a desperate panic. Set in 2004, a zealous televangelist executive pours millions into a secret campaign of computer spying, campaign sabotage and trumped up charges of child molestation. And, a troubled war veteran armed with guns and explosives begins a violent journey from small-town Montana to the City by the Bay. Enzo Lee, 39, a burned out reporter, has forsaken investigative reporting on the East Coast to churn out feature fluff in San Francisco. He likes his North Beach apartment, steps away from his Chinatown roots. He’s content with a life that includes running, tai chi, great food, and a budding romance. Assigned to cover a mysterious murder and the historic political campaign, Lee is reluctantly drawn into the unfolding conspiracy. Lee becomes a target himself. He must dodge attempts on his own life while trying, with the help of his police ally Det. Bobbie Connor, to expose the conspiracy and keep candidate Harper alive. A page-turning thriller with suspense, action, romance and enough twists to keep the reader guessing. Divine Fury is the second novel in the Enzo Lee Mystery-Thriller Series, following the best-selling Project Moses which was an Amazon Top 20 Mystery. By Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert B. This is my first Enzo Lee thriller. I was initially a bit confused by the number of characters introduced in a rather short period of time. After awhile the theme and characters settled down and I had the plot well in hand. So, if you start reading this book, don't despair if it is confusing for awhile.
This story is about an openly gay politician winning the Democratic Party primary and running against a conservative in the general election. There are only a few states where this is possible. In this case, the candidate is from the ultra liberal Bay Area of California. When you have a very left candidate, you should expect the plot to center around an ultra right opposition - and you would, be correct.
I found the story to be clever and enjoyable. I rather enjoyed the story. So, you want to know what happens in this thriller. Well, let me tell you that you simply have to buy the book to find out. No matter your opinion of sexual orientation, you will not be offended. ( )
