One family's true story of redemption and recovery In order for a relationship to hold, one must be willing to keep it strong no matter how weak it becomes.  That is the power of love.  But love alone does not always guarantee satisfaction.  This book is about will power, and the desire to keep love afloat--it is about communication for survival, and the will power to believe in someone, even when they are not willing to believe in themselves. How far are you willing to go for a loved one? Jim Serger shares how far he and his family went to save the relationship with his father through his dad's battle with alcoholism.  This is a heartfelt and personal journey; one that will resonate with anyone who has struggled to pull a loved one from the depths of addiction back into the joy of life.     This book will prove to anyone that as long as there is a will, there is a way.  The will is the how and the now, and it can determine the future.  What is in the past is in the past. Put it behind you and focus on tomorrow. If you have ever been down in the valley, staring up at the highest mountain, and feel there is no way to the top, this book is for you.  Jim Serger and his father were able to beat the odds and overcome the obstacles through sheer unconditional love, will power and faith.  It can be done.  Go the Distance will tell you how.… (plus d'informations)

This book was ab out love, perseverance and challenges. One persons ability to love despite the illness surrounding the relatinship he had with his father. Healing is a process filled with pain but like a refining fire, it will stand the test of time until the finished product. That's what this story represents. Two peopel going through in order to be able to tell their story so that others can benefit from their healing process and bear witness to what seems to "abnormal" or "dysfunctional" is turly the "norm". Though the circumstances are not normal but the end of the road to which we experience sincere love is. What a remarkable way to continue the healing process and educate others with a powerful tool for their journey to healing!

I am very open to different types of books and can finish most books. However, this one I did not finish. The repetition got old fast. The cover was the best part of the book.

Written by his son this is the story about a father's slide into alcoholism, through rehabilitation and back as a functioning member of society. While I do believe he was a great father, I found myself saying "stop already" in the description of all that he did for his sons while they were growing up. As he moved into his adult years - college, the Navy, getting married - and his parents lives were falling apart I didn't get the sense of anger which I would think would surface if you're watching a parent destroy his life and that of his spouse.
But by the end of the book I was misty eyed reading of the trips they've taken and thought it was an inspirational story that his father was able to turn his life around and they were able to create a deeper bond as father and son. ( )

I loved this book about a son dealing with his father's alcohol addiction. It wasn't written in a very heavy manner so wasn't totally depressing. The only thing that got me was a little too much baseball as I'm not a fan, but still a great book. ( )

This story of an alcoholic father and his son is written in a very 'folksy' and 'good ole boy' maqnner. The first fifty pagesrweiterated how marvellous the father was, how supportive and loving etc, until I felt like screaming at the repetition. The rest of this turgid memoir concerned the father's redemption, but i could not face reading it. ( )
