It sounded interesting and was all of $.99 so I bought it. I'm really glad that I did! It was a fantastic book about 9-year-old Grace (some editions seem to list her as 10, but this one said 9) and the struggles she faces as well as how she pulls together everyone in her apartment building. I found the characters to be incredibly realistic and full of life. I found that I was able to completely immerse myself in their world and finished the book in about 2-3 days, which for an e-read is rather quick for me. E-reads for me tend to be books I read when out and about and I don't have a physical book, but I just couldn't stop reading this one! Sure, I would've liked to have known more about some of the other tenants in the building, but this book was focused on Billy and on Grace. The rest, no matter how influential, were side characters. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author. Effettive tre stelle e mezzo. "Don't Let Me Go" was a sweet, feel-good story. Although I wasn't a big fan of nine-year-old Grace, I loved the other occupants in the apartment complex - Billy, Rayleen, Felipe, Mrs Hinman and Jesse. I found Grace an inconsistent character. Sometimes she behaved like a six-yea-old then at others, she talked as though she was in her mid-teens. However, Billy was a very sympathetic protagonist and such a sweetie. The occupants were all lonely strangers with their own issues who rallied around Grace when her drug-addicted mother couldn't look after her, giving Grace shelter, protection, guidance and love. Together, thanks to a little girl, these diverse characters come together, become friends, learn to face their insecurities and grow to understand the meaning of trust, friendship and love. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio. Troubled by this change in the natural order, Billy makes it far enough out onto his porch to ask Grace why she doesn't sit inside where it's safe. Her answer: "If I sit inside, then nobody will know I'm in trouble. And then nobody will help me." Her answer changes everything.By the bestselling author of When You Were Older and Pay It Forward, Don't Let Me Go is the heart-breaking, funny, and life-affirming story of a building full of loners and misfits who come together to help a little girl survive--and thrive--against all odds.
