This small sized walking guide to Seattle has easy to read maps, fine directions, and fun themes to follow as you walk around the city. It seemed handy to me so I sent it with my mother on her most recent trip to the city. She had a lot of fun following the various walking tours and said the book was fun and easy to use. So I can attest that the city is not only very walkable, but there's a lot to see that's worth taking the time and making the effort to see on foot. The cliché is that Seattle is "a city of neighborhoods," but it's a cliché because it's true, and it means it's worth getting out of the downtown core (though this book has good downtown walks too) and going beyond tourism standards like the Market and a ferry-ride, to see what's hidden in less traveled areas. Though locals might not think a stroll up Phinney Ridge, through Laurelhurst, around the Central District, or along West Marginal Way is the sort of thing to do with family from out of town, author Clark Humphrey makes a good case that there's a lot to see even in these somewhat untouristy settings.I always have to wonder about the utility of printed guidebooks in an era of tablets and other electronic devices, as well as countless apps for walking most any given city. Nevertheless, "Walking Seattle" is a great reference for visitors to carry in their bag or locals to keep in their guest bedroom. There's a lot to see in that beautiful city, and the 35 tours described here will lead you to much of it. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I enjoyed this little tourist book and hope that the places marked by the book live up to the reviews when I visit Seattle! The walking tours seem interesting, I just want to see how well the book applies on an actual walk through the city. Well, now I have an excellent excuse to go back! It's hard to evaluate a guidebook without having the opportunity to try it out, but I like what I see so far. The walks have information on nearby public transit and on how they connect to one another, as well as the all-important details on walk length and hilliness. The cultural and local-history information is a good balance of recent history and more traditional historical narratives. Can't wait to try this book out. A nicely sized book for toting around, with plenty of interesting Seattle landmarks and neighborhoods to enjoy. Can't wait to try it out on foot! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
