First, I hate the synopsis, 'cause it tells the entire story. I mean, after it, I knew they'd fall in love with each other and I was waiting for the first meeting and the second and all others which would follow and I stopped enjoying the narrative for real, and that's kind of bad, I guess.

The book is written in a dual-perspective, which is pretty cool 'cause it's insane to think that two people are in the same city and we're following their lives that are happening at the same time but differ completely from each other.

There's Jessie, a British teen who'll spend the summer holidays with her best friend, Emma, at her mother's house, and hopes to forget her badass ex-boyfriend with Ben's help. And there's Finn that is in love with Sam, his best friend's girlfriend, and also doesn't know how to say to his father that he wants to change his major.

I thought that's fantastic Jessie being a tourist in NYC, 'cause it led me to make great tours, even though imaginary, and I enjoyed reading about thousands of wonderful places related to movies, although I've not seen a third of them, but now I want to, of course.

I didn't fall deeply in love with the characters, though. I liked Jessie, 'cause she's youthful, and I liked Finn, 'cause he's so adorable. But, for me, Emma was a pain in the ass, 'cause she was all over the places and I kept thinking, why the hell she doesn't go away when Jessie and Finn are together and it upset me. And Scott, Finn's best friend, is fine , but he's forgettable, 'cause I didn't know his name when I finished the book. Regarding Ben, he didn't win me over too, 'cause I realized what was going on in the elevator scene. I liked the friendship between Finn and Scott, 'cause I thought they really relied on each other and they understood each other's problems. And I also liked the fact that Jessie had worked things out with her mother, 'cause it touched me when she realized how much her mother loved her and how everything had been misunderstood.

In conclusion, it was ok, but not good enough for over two stars (and a half), 'cause Emma's presence ruined most of it and, mostly, 'cause it was really predictable. ( )

I absolutely loved Keris Stainton’s debut novel Della Says: OMG! and was very excited when I discovered that her second book was going to be set in my favourite place in the world, New York City. I know that Keris is another NYC obsessive so as I settled down to read this book I had a good feeling that it would transport me across the pond and I was not disappointed.

The plot follows Jessie who, along with her friend Emma, is going to spend the summer with her mother who moved to New York City when the play she wrote transferred onto Broadway. Jessie is nursing a broken heart, and feels resentful about the way her mother left her behind. It also follows native New Yorker Finn, he’s hiding a couple of fairly huge secrets – he’s in love with his best friend’s girlfriend, and he’s thinking about changing his career path to something he wants to do instead of what his family want him to do. I loved the way these two characters were similar – both of them are dealing with romantic issues and they both have problems with their parents. The two stories alternate through the book, overlapping as their paths cross. I loved the way both of the characters got pretty equal billing, it meant I felt like I got to know them both really well.

I absolutely fell in love with Finn, he’s just so lovely. There’s a section where he talks about the glamour of old New York which confirmed for me that I was falling for him. Jessie is a great character, I loved how excited she was about New York. The situation between her and her mother is pretty strained at times, I liked the way that this was fully explored – Jessie’s reactions felt very genuine to me. I also loved Emma, Jessie’s best friend. She’s definitely the sort of best friend you would want, supportive at the times when you need support but not afraid to tell you when you’re being an idiot.

There is another love story contained within the pages of the book, and that is the characters’ (and author’s) love affair with New York City. I absolutely loved all of the mentions of famous sights, and got really excited as the characters visited places that I’ve been to. I also liked the inclusion of pop culture references to some of the many tv shows and films that are set in New York City. I’m sure this book will be encouraging lots of people to consider a visit to New York.

I absolutely adored this book, it’s great fun and just utterly lovely. I don’t know if there are plans for a follow-up book but the ending would definitely allow for one and if there is I will be pushing my way to the front of the queue to read it. ( )

This was pretty good. A really light, mindless, quick and entertaining read. The story is told from the point of view of two people- English girl Jessie and New Yorker, Finn. They keep turning up everywhere together and eventually end up talking to each other properly. The writing was nice and easy and the characters pretty believable. I especially enjoyed the interactions between Jessie and Natalie as they felt quite real and a lot of it was really funny. I did think the coincidence thing was a bit overdone and far too convenient at times but it wasn't unbearably so. Some of you might think I'm crazy for attempting to read a book called [b:Jessie Hearts NYC|11941453|Jessie Hearts NYC|Keris Stainton|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51TjcoB3rxL._SL75_.jpg|14280255] and expecting it to be anything more than annoying, but my trail of thought was along the lines of "well, I would normally be put off by a book called [b:Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging|402013|Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, #1)|Louise Rennison|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51T7MY16Z2L._SL75_.jpg|108471] and if that's anything to go by this could be awesomely funny".



Actually no. We are straight away introduced to two characters that would make anyone hate teenage girls (even other teenage girls). They talk in stupid cliches and make unnecessary exclamations of excitement. The books opens when they are taking off on the plane to go to New York and their conversation is something like:

"O.M.G. can you actually believe we're really going to New York?!?! As in, the New York. Blah, blah... shopping... blah, blah... cute boys..."

and again when the plane lands at JFK:

"Whatshername, we're really here. In New York. We. Are. In. New. York. AHHHH!!!! SQUEEEEE!!!!"



I'm not usually a violent person but I had the sudden urge to grab a sledgehammer and end their annoying little fictional lives on page 2 of the novel. It was baaaaaad. Plus, it wasn't funny. Not one bit. Did the author intend it to be funny? It's not as if it read like a bad joke... it read like it was serious. Yeah, it read like the characters we're actually meant to be taken literally.



As for New York, I've never been but it's one of the many places I've always wanted to go. Unfortunately this book was extreme New York overkill, it was a bright twinkling Times Square headache. Like having a food you enjoy rammed down your throat until you're so sick of it you'll never eat it again. The author loves New York, the characters love New York, WE ALL LOVE NEW YORK!!! Someone just shoot me.
