What's on the menu this month? Hmmm... *looks in fridge* We have leftovers and....leftovers. I'm thinking a frozen pizza sounds good for tonight. Red beans & rice and cornbread. Warm, simple comfort food for a cold wintry night! granola bar for breakfast, probably cereal for lunch Every morning I have oatmeal with raisins or dried apple pieces, cinnamon, and brown sugar. When it gets warmer I'll make my own granola. I drip brew French Roast coffee to drink. Last night I was so tired I couldn't fix dinner and left everyone to their own devices. I'll do better tonight, I promise. Fév 3, 2010, 2:07am (haut)Message 6: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)Peanut butter chicken from the Chinese take out place. Boy, that was a lot of chicken--another meal is in the fridge from it. That was hours ago, though--there might be a Kaiser roll with my name on it out there. And tea, even though I worry about it keeping me awake. Goat's cheese and pesto tortellini. Mmmmmmmm.... My better half is making mushroom leek soup with salad and bread on the side for dinner. The smells wafting from the kitchen are wonderful! Fév 6, 2010, 6:00pm (haut)Message 9: biblioholic29My fish pie is in the oven, I'm looking forward to eating it soon! Fév 6, 2010, 7:23pm (haut)Message 10: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)Stuffed peppers last night; leftover stuffed peppers tonight. Fév 8, 2010, 11:07pm (haut)Message 11: jugglingpaynesI had pretend chicken. With real rice and carrots. Don't mind me, I'm mucking about... Fév 8, 2010, 11:09pm (haut)Message 12: foggidawnI had Chinese. It was yummy, but not conducive to weight-loss. Fév 8, 2010, 11:13pm (haut)Message 13: jugglingpaynesThat's because you end up feeling hungry again an hour later! Fév 8, 2010, 11:14pm (haut)Message 14: foggidawnTrue, true. Fév 9, 2010, 12:44am (haut)Message 15: CurrerBell2010 EATING OFF THE SHELF CHALLENGE: Well, I see I have quite a backlog of instant rice, instant coucous, and also some instant pastas. Then there are my jars of spaghetti sauce and boxes of spaghetti, penne, and ziti. I've also got about twenty bars of cheese in my fridge (as you can see, I'm a member of the EatingThing Vegetarian group but but haven't yet joined the ET Vegans, as the half-gallons of peach, egg nog, and bing cherry ice cream in the freezer can also testify). See, I have this compulsive thing about buying foodstuffs on sale ... never more than $2 a bar for cheese, though I'll go to $2.50 if it's Swiss ... and then refrigerating or freezing as necessary. (I have a lot of other compulsions too, and I'm really going to have to get the paper ones properly cataloged in my LT library.) But for my 2010 EATING OFF THE SHELF CHALLENGE, I think I'll try to work my way through the instant rice and couscous during this snowstorm we're having on the East Coast. Fév 9, 2010, 11:38am (haut)Message 16: jugglingpaynesHello CurrerBell! I have that compulsion to stockpile as well. Sale items are my kryptonite. :o) This is why I suddenly find myself with a freezer full of veggie nuggets... Fév 9, 2010, 12:37pm (haut)Message 17: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)Omelet made with salsa and cheese, topped with sour cream. Toast. Feel the need for tea coming on. Fév 9, 2010, 10:14pm (haut)Message 18: catbastetOh dear, and now I'm feeling the need for tea. Or hot chocolate, I haven't decided which yet. Hm, hot chocolate or tea, hot chocolate or tea, hot chocolate tea, chocolatetea, chocolaty... Fév 9, 2010, 10:26pm (haut)Message 19: KerianChocolaty tea! . . . I had a strangely (in the way of caution) spicey caesar salad with the most wonderful strawberry lemonade today! Fév 9, 2010, 10:30pm (haut)Message 20: foggidawnHmmm . . . I just bought some chocolaty tea (chocolate hazlenut, I think) . . . maybe that would be just the thing! Seriously, though, I'm now having the same mental debate as Cat -- do I want tea or hot chocolate? Reading her post has made me want one or the other! Fév 9, 2010, 10:53pm (haut)Message 21: catbastet*evil laugh* My plan to cause everyone to have debilitating mental debates is working! I'd try it out on Congress, but they're so good at causing their own mental debates that I don't have to lift a finger! I do have to choose soon though... Fév 12, 2010, 3:47am (haut)Message 22: KerianI've yet to try tea. Tonight I had a six inch turkey sandwich from Subway with a peppermint hot chocolate from Starbucks. They were next door to each other. The Starbucks has a drive thru which I find to be a little strange. Someday I'd like to go through it just for the laugh. Fév 12, 2010, 4:01am (haut)Message 23: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)Hamburger goulash, one of those comfort food meals that probably should be embarrassed to be called goulash, as it shares almost nothing with the real thing. Fév 12, 2010, 9:33pm (haut)Message 24: lefty33K!! You've never had tea?? Everyone who made sure you ate things like cheesecake and bagels neglected to give you tea? I don't know what I'd do without tea. It's one of my favorite beverages hot or cold. Tonight I had blueberry yogurt followed by popcorn. I felt guilty eating just popcorn for dinner so I had the yogurt first to make myself feel better. :) Fév 12, 2010, 11:58pm (haut)Message 25: 56HypocritesCe message a été signalé par plusieurs utilisateurs et n'est plus affiché.. signaler un abus (4)Fév 13, 2010, 12:48am (haut)Message 26: foggidawn#25 -- Please refrain from using that sort of language in this group. Fév 23, 2010, 12:35pm (haut)Message 31: lefty33*pout* it's snowing again. I'm going to make hot chocolate. Fév 23, 2010, 8:26pm (haut)Message 32: grkmwkI feel your pain, lefty. After a glorious weekend, we're forecast to get snow again tomorrow. Thankfully we aren't supposed to get more than a couple of inches max, and the roads are warm enough that it will only stick in grassy areas. ETA: I was completely sidetracked by snow and forgot to mention my delicious black bean soup from lunch! It was nothing special, just from a can, but surprisingly good. :o) Message modifié par son auteur, Fév 23, 2010, 8:29pm. Yep, thats about it. Fév 24, 2010, 10:19am (haut)Message 35: biblioholic29I made a stew a couple days ago. I was disappointed to find that the onion I'd been planning to use had gone bad, but it had carrots, parsnips, mushrooms, and lentils. I stewed them in stout and infused it with rosemary. It was darn good. Fév 25, 2010, 11:45am (haut)Message 36: elbakeroneI might be a little late to the tea vs. hot chocolate debate but once I brewed a cup of peppermint tea* and since it was too strong I dumped in a packet of instant hot chocolate - it was fabulous! * and in case there are any purists out there, I do realize that my peppermint tea was not actually tea but was in fact a peppermint herbal infusion, it's just a heck of a lot easier to call it all "tea" And K, you really should try tea sometime! Perhaps start with iced tea if you're not sure if you'll like it, or since you like smoothies some places make green tea fruit smoothies and those can be really good too - it might give you a little taste of the tea without having a full cup! Fév 25, 2010, 12:24pm (haut)Message 37: biblioholic29Also try a bunch of different teas. I don't like black or white tea, but I love green and red teas. I've also discovered I like it strong, two bags at least, otherwise it just tastes like hot water to me. I'm eating a new item from my favorite cafe, not yet on the menu but the owner recommended it to me. They're calling it the fajita burrito. They make their own tortillas and they don't use lard, and they use whole black beans, homemade pico de gallo, homemade guacamole, cheese and lettuce. Delicious. Fév 25, 2010, 12:56pm (haut)Message 38: VenusofUrbinoInspired by Cuisines of the Axis of Evil, I plan on making Khoresh Fesenjan this weekend. Skipped lunch, and feasted at my parents' tonight: pot roast, mashed potatoes & gravy, maple carrots, green bean casserole, Watergate salad, yeast rolls, and apple turnovers. I am happily full!
