Jan 3, 2010, 1:34pm (haut)Message 1: pollysmithI've got my voice back and I can sing again! Yay! Jan 3, 2010, 2:35pm (haut)Message 2: ChelseaBottomleySo is that good news or bad news? ;) Good News: I don't go back to school until Wednesday. Bad News: I go back to school on Wednesday! :O Good News: I think I will be able to meet with friends these last couple days and possibly go out for ice cream and use my gift cards! Jan 3, 2010, 9:28pm (haut)Message 3: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)BN: Cold. Cold. Cold. GN: Down comforters. BN: Another 3 days and counting on my latest head/earache. Ugh. GN: It began snowing again last night. So pretty. School is cancelled tomorrow. Which is great because another day to recover from this head/earache. It's not much snow, but if you guys remember we get ice underneath our snow. Our hills and curvy roads are dangerous to navigate when that happens. I have a puppy curled up next to me, which is always good news. Puppies and down comforters are, indeed good news. I plan to combine those two factors shortly. GN: I've had a pretty good day today! Went to see some friends this morning, went to Half-Price Books (and actually only spent $1.74 more than I got for trade-ins) this afternoon, then went out to a movie this evening. BN: The itinerary above involved a lot of driving, and I am sooo tired right now. BN:Extremely Cold GN: I get my new school books tomorrow BN: Work meeting tonight whcih means I will be getting home an hour and a half later than usual. Jan 4, 2010, 2:54pm (haut)Message 7: mindylou182GN: Paris in almost 5 months. GN: Graduation in almost 5 months. BN: The TV is displaying closing and "no afternoon activities" and things like that along the bottom of the screen. Do they know something about the weather that I don't? Wish me luck on Thursday! The paperwork part is getting easier but I always have key trouble (any key for any door, anywhere) so that and running on time are the biggest things I'm antsy about. I've wanted the non-temp supervisor position so much and for so long. One month of torture left, I think, before hearing if I want to rot or jump for joy. Either way there'd be tears. Jan 4, 2010, 5:38pm (haut)Message 14: littlegeekYou'll be fine, K. But I know what you mean about those keys, and setting the alarm! I hated when I had to do that. Jan 4, 2010, 5:50pm (haut)Message 15: KerianThanks, LG. I hadn't even thought of that part. More worry. I'm kidding. I just hope the keys turn alright. Keys don't want to turn for me. When I was in high school, we wrote our homework by hand in these things called homework planners that the school provided us with. Today my kid sister, a high school freshman, writes her homework in her iphone. When I was in high school, if we were really good students, we wrote our class notes by hand in notebooks that were bound in spirals. When we were slightly worse students, we wrote our class notes by hand on loose leaf. Today my kid sister writes her class notes (yes) in her iphone. It's amazing how things change over eight years. No Kerian I'm not even being considered, but what's most frustrating about the whole thing is that currently our warehouse has a young man who is training in the same position who was recruited straight out of college, without working for the company first, so the 6 month rule didn't apply to him at all. And the job posting did state that since it was a position based on qualifications and experience that those with less than 6 months could be considered, but those who had been there more then 6 months would be considered first. Small groups of students pulled out of the general classroom b/c of learning disability, language skills deficiency, or just can't handle being in the room w/ other students. We were supposed to be finished yesterday, but we had many student who either were absent, or did so poorly they were retaking it. So I was greeted w/ the news this morning that the library would be closed again, and I'd be testing 7 students. My last student just left...worked on the same reading test from 8:15 to 2:30. The *real* test is next month, and again in April. Oh dear, these kids are not ready, and sadly probably never will be. And the *real* test is excruciating to administer...teachers are not allowed to read, grade papers, work on lesson plans, or anything else during the testing. It is the academic equivilent of simultaneously watching grass grow and paint dry. More BN: (actually a mini-rant) I have to go have dinner tonight w/ people I really don't want to be with (pastor visit thing)...they are nice people, I just don't wanna go. They will be using the space and the librarian to tutor students. Shortsighted, you think? And new language art standards require research skills beginning in kindergarten...just how will they be able to do that without access to the library?? Not only that, a library and/or certified librarian IS NOT required in this state, and many districts do not have them. Libraries are most often the first target in budget cut times. Jan 31, 2010, 5:43pm (haut)Message 275: KasongoIt was a great day. First, at church, there were friends from Norway there. Haven't seen them in years, they look good, and pretty much the same. Came home and there was a message from Holly. She wanted to meet me in Lancaster, and Bib, too. So I called Bib and she drove over and we took off for Lancaster and spent a most enjoyable day with two of my daughters and Zachary. Jan 31, 2010, 7:36pm (haut)Message 276: kirbyownsChurch was canceled today, and school is canceled tomorrow. BN: We decided to clean out the fridge and take out the scraps. So I was working my way out to the ravine with my hands full of scraps. I get all the way down there (remember in 7 inches of snow and ice) and fall. Slide 2 feet and twist my ankle. I can walk on it with a little limp, but it hurts really bad and even more when anything touches it or it turns any which way. GN: We have a clean fridge. GN/BN: We saw a truck come out yesterday. It was a state truck and it graded the road in front of our house and put down sand. Great! So we're walking to a neighbor's house down the road (about 1/2 a mile) and see that they only did it from about a 1/4 of a mile up from our house and only sanded 1/2 the street. The other streets didn't get graded. They also didn't get the corner, hills, or the first 1/2 mile of our road that goes to the highway. So it's pretty dangerous to try and get out and go to town. We think it was a state truck and they decided to come through since they had a little sand left. They must have run out of sand and decided to go home. We're out of city limits so we have to rely on the state or county to come do our roads. Anywho...Maybe we can get to town to do some grocery shopping sometime tomorrow. Of course dad will have to drive us. ;) Jan 31, 2010, 7:43pm (haut)Message 277: grkmwkBN: I have to go to work tomorrow. Funny, even after ten years in our own home I still catch myself saying I have to pay the rent. :o) And if you think about it, you are just exchanging a landlord for a bank. Fév 4, 2010, 2:20pm (haut)Message 307: foggidawn#305 -- What JP said! I didn't expect to be in a position to buy a house as early as I did, but I'm so glad I did buy instead of renting. This is my take on it: when you rent, you pay a certain amount of money each month for the privilege of living somewhere, and after that month the money you spent is gone. When you buy, you pay a certain amount each month for the privilege of living somewhere, but you're also investing in something and building equity. (It also helps that I am paying slightly less for my mortgage each month than I paid each month for my last apartment.) Fév 4, 2010, 6:34pm (haut)Message 308: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)I'll join in on the wonderfulness of home ownership, though there are some drawbacks (cough, *repairs*). But one thing I noticed is that the mortgage I was paying became, within a few years, less than I would have paid to rent a comparable place. Even better, my house appreciated sufficiently that I was able to sell it, pay off the mortgage, and buy a house in a much less expensive area that I own outright. (Love the house; hate the town; that's another story.) Ultimately, you'd be paying out money for housing--it's so much better to do it as an investment. And the tax benefits are delicious. Fév 4, 2010, 9:04pm (haut)Message 311: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)>310 On the one hand, you never know with the bidding--the other person's funding may fall through or they may need to sell their house first or any number of other things could happen. B/G news: My sleep walker sister dived out of her top bunk bed during a nightmare. My youngest sister's having some minor seizures lately from missing her medicine. (GN because he will have fun, BN because it will be quiet around here without him.) BN: This means that most of my day will be driving him to the airport and back (since he's not flying out of the nearby one, but a bigger one further away). GN: While he's gone, I have a big painting/reorganizing project that will keep me busy. Fév 13, 2010, 9:00am (haut)Message 384: pollysmithhave a good trip Espy! Enjoy your project foggi! Fév 13, 2010, 11:25am (haut)Message 385: MEM82Thank you everyone for the congrats! Sorry I'm running a little behind on posting. 8( KErian- Good luck with the interview. You can get it! Kirby- I'm glad your tea party went well. It sounded so sweet. Mandy, Kasongo and Bib- Have fun this weekend. 8) Rissa- Usually once a baby has a tooth in each gum the rest don't seem to hurt as much. MsDonna- Wow! He's a keeper. LOL Espy- Have Fun! foggi- I hate airports! Hopefully it isn't too busy. GN/BN We got Gracie spayed. She seems in good spirits and super happy to be home. I just feel bad for her poor belly. 8( BN- My bff/sister in law goes to the Army Tuesday. We've pretty much seen each other constantly since we were 15. It's really hard to imagine she'll be far way for no less than six months. 8( Then hopefully she'll get stationed in Kentucky which is at least sort of close to us. She's been there for the birth of all my kids, so it's hard to know Theo will be Cole's age before she'll get out. 8( Worse News- Her specialty will almost definitely take her overseas. 8( GN- My other best friend and I threw her one heck of a going away party last night! I made a cake and cupcakes that looked like a set of dog tags. Funny News- While icing her name on it I blanked and put a D on the end. Her name is Dawn so it looked like DawD. I laughed and told Cole what I did. He said, "Why don't you put cat on there instead? Then it can be cat tags." LOL Fév 13, 2010, 2:51pm (haut)Message 386: jugglingpaynesGood news: I spoke to suge today! She sends her love to everyone and apologizes for not being online. She's had issues with her internet connection and has not been able to get online for about two months. She wants MEM to know she is incredibly jealous that she has a house now. :o) She also said she is planning to move to the Dominican Republic and has been busy and crazed trying to sort everything out. Once she figures out how to get connected again, she will come in and say hello. :o) Fév 13, 2010, 4:33pm (haut)Message 387: foggidawn#386 -- Oh, thanks for the update! GN: Espy is on his way to Russia to see our parents. BN: I am exhausted after being in the car all day. BN: Sophie rode with me so she wouldn't be stuck in the house all day, and she got carsick on the windy back roads. Poor puppy! :-( GN: She's fine now that she is not in the car. Fév 13, 2010, 4:41pm (haut)Message 388: picolinaMEM- Congrats on the new house!!!!! And I'm sorry about your friend maybe having to go overseas, that's a real bummer. :o( Foggi- Aw, poor Sophie! Glad she's better now! GN: The ski race on wednesday went well and the jr girls relay team got to OFSSAA!!!!! (which stands for Ontario Finals Secondary School Athletic Association.) This is extremely good news because it's really hard to get to OFSSAA on your first year on the team!! GN: I'm going to a Chinese New Year's Party tomorrow! BN: I have a cold right now, hopefully it'll all be better by tomorrow. GN: I had my first rehearsal with the piano accompanist for my flute competition on the 24th. I think it went alright, and I have another one next week, so hopefully I don't mess up that bad. Message modifié par son auteur, Fév 13, 2010, 4:42pm. Enjoy your painting project! #391 Maren: You will get to see him, though! I'm glad for that. :) Bad news: My mother's vacation time is almost up. GN..sorta- More snow! I have to say, it's so pretty and since Rob is off the next two days so he doesn't have to drive across town, I love the snow. 8) BN- My two best friends took Missie to a 'girl's night out dinner.' After Missie told them her new friend had to suddenly move and that she was lonely, my friends have decided that homeschooling isn't for Missie. GN- They were gentle about their opinions and provided me with a list of classes they had researched that Missie could do after I made it clear public school wasn't an option. They even offered to drive her. BN- I believe Missie is in plenty of stuff and it wouldn't be fair to the boys for me to drag them around any more than they are already. Plus, I am not made of money! BN- At first it didn't bug me that they had taken this upon themselves, I mean, they want what's best for Missie. Two days later, though, I'm having a little bit of trouble getting around it, which is childish. I feel...ruffled. 8( Fév 15, 2010, 4:48pm (haut)Message 398: ejj1955 (page de l'auteur)>397 It sounds to me that your friends, while well-meaning, are confusing cause and effect. Sounds to me like Missy is lonely because her friend is moving, not because she's homeschooled. I moved when I was 15 and, though in a school with plenty of people, I was lonely because my friends were three hours away. Sometimes there's just no quick fix for that; time and new friends will do it, though. Fév 15, 2010, 5:25pm (haut)Message 399: pollysmithwell said, ejj! Thank you I was going to say something along the same lines! Fév 15, 2010, 8:47pm (haut)Message 400: catbastetExactly, ejj! I have lost contact with a lot of friends because of them moving away/going back to school. The best you can do is try to keep in contact. It's easier for me to stay connected with friends now because of e-mail. Going to school wouldn't keep friends from moving, and I would have missed out on meeting a lot friends and doing special activities if I wasn't homeschooled. Don't feel bad, MEM. It sounds like they just heard the "lonely" part of what Missie said, and not the "because my friend had to move away" part. *hugs* Fév 16, 2010, 2:31am (haut)Message 401: rissaGN: I got our taxes done BN: I have to send the government more money GN: I don't have to send very much VGN: Jason is getting a lot of money on his tax return Fév 16, 2010, 8:56am (haut)Message 402: kirbyownsI'm glad you don't have to pay very much and that Jason is getting back a bunch. GN: My tax returns are paying for my trip this June to Washington, and my trip in December to Florida. Those are my fun trips. The school is paying for me to go to Colorado City, CO for a week long training for gender specific classes. GN/BN?: I most probably will be teaching all boys next year. While I'm excited to get to try same gender classes from both genders, I think I will miss the girls. It's okay because when I started doing research 2 years ago I wanted to teach boys. BN: Recess duty today. And it's cold...very cold. There's a possibility we may go out (which is good news for the kids), but we won't be sure until time. If it does get warm enough, it will be barely. I doubt it will because we go by wind chill and not actual temperature. Fév 16, 2010, 8:59am (haut)Message 403: pollysmithGN> Yeah! Fév 16, 2010, 9:02pm (haut)Message 408: KasongoWe (Bib, Mandy and I) had a discussion on "Washington". When we lived in CA we called it Washington for the state, and DC for the capitol. Now we are on the East coast, DC is called "Washington" and otherwise they will say "Washington, the state", I think the West Coast way is the better.
